Secure Notes contents get Duplicated
Hi y'all, whenever I modify a Secure Notes and proceded to synched, It contents gets duplicated in MacOS, iPad and iPhone. This started to happen when I upgraded to 1Password 4. Old Secure Notes that I have not updated are fine.
I would appreciate any help or pointers to solve this rather annoying occurrences.

I am experiencing the same, and this has been happening for a very long time, maybe even back to 1Password 3? I keep hoping it'll get magically fixed but finally got fed up and decided to register to file a report. :) This person has experienced it too: http://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/21126/secure-notes-contents-get-duplicated
It becomes very tiresome to manually merge large secure notes after the contents get duplicated. Sometimes contents even get duplicated 3 or 4 times!
I don't really have steps to reproduce because I can go weeks without any issues then all of a sudden it magically happens. What can I do to help get this fixed?
My Versions:
- OSX 10.9.2
- 1Password for Mac Version 4.1.2 (412009)
- 1Password for iOS Version 4.3.2

I too am having problems with the information within "notes" duplicating whenever I edit the information. My only remedy so far is to log out of my account and then log back in. This seems to stop the duplications for awhile.0 -
Hi @jsnod,
Since the other discussion refers to the beta version of 1Password 4 for Mac, I think we'll keep them separate for now, but I've merged the non-beta posts into this thread so that we can more easily troubleshoot this.
Thank you so much for including your version numbers, it gives us a much better place to start. I'd like to gather just a bit more information here:
- Are the two devices listed the only two that are currently running 1Password? (If there are others, please provide the version information for those as well.)
- What are you using to keep your devices in sync?
- Do you notice any duplicated information in other categories, or is this restricted to Secure Notes?
The more detail we have here, the more likely it is that we can recreate the situation on our end, which is the first step to tracking this down and getting it fixed!
And @ozfever,
I'd love to know a bit more about your situation as well:
- Please provide the version numbers of both 1Password and your operating system for all computers and devices currently using 1Password.
- What are you using to keep your devices in sync?
- Just to clarify, are you seeing duplicated information in 'notes' fields in categories other than Secure Notes? Is there any information other than the notes that is duplicated as well?
Thanks for your patience as we search for a solution. :)

Hi @Megan,
I am using 3 devices:
- Macbook Pro OSX 10.9.2, 1Password 4.1.2 (412009)
- iPhone 5 iOS 7.1, 1Password 4.3.2
- iPad 2 iOS 7.1, 1Password 4.3.2
On the Macbook Pro I am using Dropbox for syncing.
On the iPhone/iPad I am using all 3 sync methods: iCloud, Dropbox, and File SharingI only notice the duplicated info in Secure Notes. And it only duplicates the one I actually change.
I should point out that I was able to finally reproduce this (or see it happen in realtime) just now as I was checking all the versions!
- Opened up 1Password on Mac - View single Secure Note as expected
- Opened up 1Password on iPhone (it auto-syncs)
- Opened up 1Password on iPad (it auto-syncs)
I now have three copies of my Secure Note on all 3 devices. I'm guessing that if I had only opened up my iPhone or iPad and not both, the note would have only been duplicated, not triplicated.
Hope that helps, this bug is super-frustrating. Let me know if you need any other info. I love 1Password and hope this gets fixed soon!

Hi @jsnod,
Thanks so much for providing this extra information here. I'm willing to bet that the problem is coming in here:
On the iPhone/iPad I am using all 3 sync methods: iCloud, Dropbox, and File Sharing
When we initially released 1Password 4 for iOS, we had hoped that users would be able to use multiple sync solutions at once, however, several users started reporting conflicts and duplicated data, just like you are seeing here. So, we've been recommending that users pick the sync solution that works the best for them and use only that. In fact, the sync settings on iOS will be changed in a future update to follow the Mac's 'select one' approach to syncing.
Please try switching to just one sync solution on iOS and let me know if this issue goes away! :)

Thanks @Megan, I have removed the additional sync options on my iOS devices so that all 3 devices are now using the same sync solution. I will let you know if that solves it for me. In general, which of the 3 (iCloud, Dropbox, File Sharing) are the best supported/most reliable/preferred going forward?

Hi @jsnod,
I do hope this solves things for you!
In terms of which sync to use, we really don't recommend one over the other. We offer multiple options to provide you with the solution that best fits your needs:
- Apple-only users sometimes appreciate that iCloud is built-in to their systems so that they don't have to install another program or create another account
- Dropbox offers great cross-platform syncing if you use Windows or Android devices, and comes with the added bonus of 1PasswordAnywhere.
- (File Sharing is more of a back-up solution than a sync solution, so I would suggest choosing either Dropbox or iCloud for cloud-based syncing)
We're doing our best to ensure that all sync solutions are quick and reliable, of course. :)
