Synced passwords not matching across devices [resolved; disabled/reenabled Dropbox syncing]

Hi, I'm using 1password across a laptop, desktop and mobile devices. All sync to the same database on dropbox but all display different totals of items in 1password. When i check specific machines its also evident that passwords saved on a specific device just remain there and are not available on the others.

All are running latest version of 1password and all have been synced within minutes of each other. I've also tried deleting the 1password file on local dropbox folders and copying the same single keychain file to all but still items don't tally.

It appears sync is not working as it should.

Any advice?

Thanks

    Hi @DamienS,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with sync right now. There is a bug our developers are currently tracking down where the item counts on 1Password 4 for Mac could include items in the Trash, so a non-matching item count doesn't automatically mean that sync is broken. Let's run a quick test here:

    • Create a test entry on each of your Macs ("Test, Mac1"...) and add some data
    • Create a test entry on each of your your iOS devices ("Test, iOS1"...) and add some data
    • Does 'test for Mac' show up on your iOS devices?
    • Does 'test for iOS' show up on your Macs?
    • Log in to the Dropbox website and click on the 1Password.html file inside your 1Password.agilekeychain folder
    • Enter your Master Password
    • Do any or all of your test entries show up in your database here?

Please let me know the results of this experiment and we'll investigate further if the test entries are not syncing where they should.

    Hi Megan

    Some strange behaviours here:

    1. I've set up test secure notes on my macbook, iMac and ipad.
    2. In 1 password on the ipad I can see the ipad note and the synced iMac note
    3. In 1 password on the macbook I can only see the Macbook note - none of the others even though 1Password is synced
    4. In 1 password on the iMac I can't see any synced notes from the others devices... plus the iMac note has disappeared!
    5. When I login via dropbox on the macbook I can see the iMac secure note - but not the Macbook or the iPad notes
    6. When I login via dropbox on the iMac its the same - I can see the iMac secure note but none of the other synced notes

    Any thoughts?

    Best wishes

    Damien

    Hi @DamienS,

It sounds like sync has gotten disconnected somewhere along the line. Let's reset it to give it a kickstart:

    • On your iOS devices, open 1Password 4 for iOS, tap Settings > Sync, and toggle Dropbox to OFF.

    • On the Mac, open 1Password 4 for Mac, and click the 1Password menu, then Preferences. Click Sync, and click Change syncing.

    • Check the box to remove the data from Dropbox and confirm that you want to disable sync.

    • Reboot the Mac and iOS devices.

    • Check your Dropbox folder and delete any other 1Password folders or files that the remove data checkbox did not take care of.

    • On the Mac, go back to the Sync preferences, and click Dropbox. Click Choose vault, then navigate to your Dropbox folder and select Open. This will regenerate a 1Password folder in Dropbox, and that will contain a new 1Password.agilekeychain file.

    • Allow Dropbox to fully sync.

    • Go back into the iOS app and re-enable Dropbox sync. That should get everything on the same page for sure.

Please let me know how this works for you!
