Sync Problems using Dropbox

Hi

I'm just in the process of switching my main computer from a Mac Mini to an iMac. I've been installing all my apps on the iMac and using 1password to get my various registration details. Whilst doing this I have discovered several apps missing from my 1 password data. I sync via dropbox so both machines are using the same source data, yet there are discrepancies between the two systems with several missing entries. The same file on the Mini shows 504 items stores of which 182 are software licences. On the iMac the same file shows only 496 items of which only 181 are software. Each system is showing missing licences. Yet checking the sync location in dropbox they are both using the same location

I have just done a test and restored my MacMini from a backup in the preferences. I then disabled the sync and recreated it into a new location. I then disabled the sync on the iMac and then selected the new sync location. I left some time between for dropbox to update on both machines.

The result was 517 files on the iMac and only 510 on the Mini.

the recent files I could see were missing appear to now be showing but at least 7 are still missing, Worst would be its not the same 510 on both machines, which looking at the totals now compared to my earlier post appeared to be the case.

I've just checked on my iPhone and noticed that that's only showing 496 items.

Is the sync broken ? Is there a more reliable way to sync ?

I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to you here but we experienced a surge in support requests recently. We're doing the best we can to get back to our usual speedy replies as soon as possible.

Let's try completely resetting sync and see if that helps:

    • On your iOS devices, open 1Password 4 for iOS, tap Settings > Sync, and toggle Dropbox to OFF.

    • On your Macs, open 1Password 4 for Mac, and click the 1Password 4 menu, then Preferences. Click Sync, and then Change syncing.

    • Check the box to remove the data from Dropbox and confirm that you want to disable sync.

    • Restart the Mac and iOS devices.

    • Check your Dropbox folder and delete any other 1Password folders or files that the remove data checkbox did not take care of.

    • On the Mac, go back to the Sync preferences, and click Dropbox. Click Choose vault, then navigate to your Dropbox folder and select Open. This will regenerate a 1Password folder in Dropbox, and that will contain a new 1Password.agilekeychain file.

    • Allow Dropbox to fully sync.

    • Go back into the other Mac, and iOS devices and re-enable Dropbox sync there as well.

If that doesn't work, please email us a Diagnostics Report from your Macs, along with a link to this discussion, to: support+forum@agilebits.com

    cheers

I've done as suggested above and both my Mac's now appear in sync with 509 items. Surprisingly my keychain has dropped from over 50MB to only 3.2MB

The iOS device was still showing the incorrect number of items, so I removed the 1password app completely from my iPhone and iPad and then rebooted them and reinstalled before selecting to sync with Dropbox. Total items is now in sync with the mac version at 509.

    Thanks for the help.

    Phil

  • Hi @CypherUK,

Awesome, I'm so glad to hear that @JasperP's suggestion worked!

Regarding the file size, new agilekeychain's created with 1Password 4 may have significantly smaller file sizes, due to a number of optimizations including the use of Rich Icons that are not synced through the keychain. My guess is that the 50MB file was originally created in 1Password 3, which would explain the drop in size when this data file was regenerated.

If there is anything else we can help with, please let us know!
