Won't accept my Master Password

Not computer savvy here so I apologize if this turns out to be something silly but I thank anyone it may concern in advance for the assistance.
I downloaded 1password from the Mac app store. Loaded up my vault over a few days time. Opened and closed the app repeatedly without difficulty but now my Master Password is not being accepted.
I've looked at the FAQ's. I haven't forgotten my password and am keying in the correct one. My caps lock key is not engaged (nor was it when I set my Master Password--tried that out just in case to no avail). Also tried restarting the computer.
As much as I didn't want to go through all the work again of reentering all of my information, I trashed the app and reinstalled it thinking that would put me back at square one. But that didn't happen. The vault opens and asks for my Master Password which I put in but it doesn't work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Don't delete everything and start again while awaiting better advice here! It may well be someone can get you back on track. The AgileBits people (and others here) are really helpful and usually come along just a little later in the day.

If you ever do need to start over there's a knowledge base article here on how to do it.

Having the same problem, I asked the same question a couple days ago. No reply. My app was obtained through the Apple Store. I restored v. 4.1.2 and it still would not accept my master PW. I then followed the Knowledge base instruction for starting over. It brought up the Start protocol but, instead, I did an iCloud sync and my master PW worked again. However, I have not tried to update again and will likely wait until there is a later update at the Apple Store. YMMV.

    Hi @critely‌

I would like to sincerely apologize for the delay in responding to you here but we experienced a surge in support requests recently. We're doing the best we can to get back to our usual speedy replies as soon as possible.

Unfortunately I don't have much better advice for you than you have already received. For your privacy and security, your master password is known only by you. We cannot reset it for you and you cannot change it without entering the old one. There is also no "back door" to access your data without the master password. If there were, that would be a security hole that criminals could exploit to steal your information.

If you think you know what the password is, but it is not being accepted, please try some of these tips.

    • If you have accents such as è, î and so on, try replacing it with the regular character such as e for è and see if that’ll get you in.
    • Try leaving the caps lock on and/or off. (Which you mention already trying.) You can also try copying and pasting your master password in a text editor. Make sure it’s an editor that doesn’t sync to the cloud automatically (you wouldn’t want to expose your password in clear view). Copy the password and then paste into the master password field in 1Password.
    • If you entered the password hint for this data file, 1Password will show it automatically in a prompt after every three incorrect attempts. Confirm it’s the right hint that you entered because if not, you may be looking at a different data file.

Please try each tip, for we have found them to be the most common causes of this problem. If you cannot remember the password, you will need to restore from a backup or start over. You can do a restore from File > Restore, or you can start over using this link.

If you've really never stored anything in your 1Password data file then starting over is really easy -- but you'll want to make sure and provide a good "password hint" so you don't forget the master password again.

I'm sorry that I don't have a better answer for you here, but don't hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
