Sites that block "Paste" [Under consideration to add a shortcut to fill in a new password]

When resetting the password some sites will not allow pasting a string in to the password record (1Password can fill such blocks). A great feature would be a pseudo paste function to allow the complex passwords the are generated to be automatically entered.

I think it already does that when you click on the Fill button after generating a new password.

When resetting a password you need to put the old password in then a new one twice. The "Fill" button puts the same password in 3 times.

Ah, you're right. The new one and its confirmation are auto filled in a way those site seem to find acceptable, but that doesn't address the old one.

You may find this article useful http://prioritized.net/blog/re-enabling-password-pasting-on-annoying-web-forms/

That is if the issue is the pasting itself, as to the 3 entered being the same. I think the team may need to comment on that.

  • Hi guys,

A great feature would be a pseudo paste function to allow the complex passwords the are generated to be automatically entered.

I assume you mean something like pressing Command + Option +P would tell 1Password to generate a strong password and then fill it into the field you're focused in? That would be an interesting idea. We have a similiar request where such a keyboard shortcut would bring up the generator right away.

I'll file your request in our tracker and we'll see what kind of cool stuff we can do with it.

The "Fill" button puts the same password in 3 times.

We're working on fixing that as soon as possible. However, if you tell 1Password to fill in with your existing Login item first and then use the generator, it should not overwrite the first field.

Are you saying it is in your case?

I'll try that the next time I update a website. Won't be long cleaning up after Heartbleed.

  • When you update us on this, can you also tell us which 1Password extension version you have installed in your browser. You can find that information in your browser's extension settings area, it should show up next to the 1Password name.

    Thanks!

Mike, I Used the method you described and it worked. It is easy but not obvious (at least to me). I didn't go through the manual or the help so I may be a victim of my own stupidity but I like it when features are discoverable.

  • Hi @Jim_in_StL‌,

You're not a victim of anything, 1Password has a lot of undiscovered little tricks that many folks still don't know about (it's not written down either, so it's on us) and we're trying to come up with ways to present all of the cool tricks, like a weekly video blog.

We actually met many folks who didn't know about Command + \ and that's one of the best features of 1Password. So, keep an eye out, we'll reveal our magic bag of tricks.
