Dropbox syncing selective passwords for intern.

We have 3 office computers:

2 for admins and 1 for an intern.

We have setup Dropbox syncing so passwords are shared between computers. We don’t want to give access to sensitive passwords to the intern though. The admin’s keychain file should not reside on / sync to the intern computer. We do though need to share certain (uncritical / non-admin) passwords with the intern computer though.

Can you please talk me through how to set this up effectively, using Dropbox syncing.

Thanks.

    Hi @ImgnDigi‌

It sounds to me like you're looking for a secondary vault here. Creating a secondary vault would allow you to share the uncritical/non-admin passwords with the intern without granting them full access to your primary vault. We've got a handy instruction guide on how to share a non-primary vault (with lots of pictures!) that should walk you through the process. Please take a look at it and let me know if you have any questions.

@Megan, I read your instruction guide for sharing a non-primary vault. That works fine for computers, but how can I share a non-primary vault using Dropbox when the other person is using an IOS device connected to their own Dropbox account?

I am really struggling with the limitation that iCloud sharing only works with primary vaults and one iCloud account and Windows only works with Dropbox and not iCloud and IOS only works with the Dropbox or iCloud account of the user. How on earth can I share my passwords with another person who has their own Dropbox and iCloud accounts and we use all three platforms (IOS, OSX and Windows)?

    Hi Marc,

I'm so sorry that you're having trouble here. I know that iCloud is a bit limited right now, but Dropbox should work great for your purposes! It really is our most versatile sync service right now and will sync across platforms and user accounts.

The vault sharing instructions I linked to above include steps on how to share a folder in Dropbox with a user who has a separate Dropbox account. I'll include those steps here, just in case you missed them:

    • Ensure that your .agilekeychain file is saved to a separate folder within your Dropbox
    • Locate this folder in Finder
    • Right-click and select 'Share this Folder' from the menu
    • This will take you to the Dropbox website
    • Enter the email address of the person you wish to share the folder with
    • Once they accept the invitation to share, that folder will be synced to their Dropbox

I hope this helps, but we're here if you have any further questions or concerns. :)
