Editing Items in 1P OSX incredibly slow

I'm not sure when this started happening, but recently when I've been updating things in 1P on OSX the user interface is incredibly slow (I'm on the latest update 4.4.3, and using OSX 10.9.5) and I can type some text and then seconds later it will appear in the UI - e.g. the notes field. Similarly if I cut and paste text there is a similar lag. Its bad enough that I make mistakes. Has the app been profiled in a while?

I have about 430 passwords and and the trash says 265 (Which should be peanuts)

  • Hi @365nice‌

Sorry to hear about the sluggishness. This isn't something I've noticed during development, but it's quite possible that something funny is going on here. We have a known issue with the search field sometimes being slow or not displaying text at all (believe that's fixed in the latest beta), but this is the first I hear of other text fields being slow. Is it all fields? Only specific types? Any additional information you could provide us would be useful.

It appears that its after I type a character like ( or . and CR then its a second or two before characters appear again. Its also like this when I use copy/paste? However I'm not seeing this behavior in other apps, or indeed this web browser when I'm typing now. I will record a video to show you if you want.

  • @365nice‌ I've been playing around with this and so far I've not been able to see a slow down. I hooked up the profiler to it to see if maybe I just wasn't feeling the sluggishness, and it's not showing much work except drawing of the text as I would expect.

I would love to see a video of this, to see if I can better match what you're doing exactly to see if I can get it to be sluggish here.

The one main difference I can think of is that I'm doing my tests with 1Password 5 on 10.10. I'm not super familiar with how much this code has changed between 4.4 and 5.0, but I can figure that out.

  • @365nice : I talked this over with another developer here, and we came to the conclusion that the next step to get more info (other than the video), would be to get a Diagnostic Report from you. Do you think you could take a few minutes to send us one? It's as simple as following the instructions on this page. If you could include a link to this forum discussion in the email so that we can link the two, that'd be great.

Sorry for the delay in replying about this. I did take a video of it at the time, however I then had to do an OSX update and rebooted my computer and then the problem disappeared. As I hadn't done so for a few months - potentially there is some memory leak?

Can I suggest that we sit on this one, and I will get back to you if I notice it again?

    Hi @365nice‌

I think it's fair to say almost with exception that Mac users tend to forget to reboot, I suppose we should blame Apple for giving us a fairly reliable operating system :stuck_out_tongue: Sometimes a reboot can sort out all sorts of odd nonsense.

Anyway, if the issue returns please do post back and we'll take it from there. Fingers crossed though to many more trouble-free months usage
