Questions about filling in 1Password 5

1P 5 (and previous versions) perform as I expect a paid program to do about half the time. I've been a user since V3. Fields dont autofill consistently and more often than not, the log ins for any given site do not appear automatically as expected. Most recently, the log in pull down is sometimes truncated. Any suggestions ? OS10.10

    Hi @Casper250,

I'm so sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password. We very much appreciate your long-time support, and I'd be happy to help you get 1Password behaving properly for you. We'd hate for you to give up on the app!

Now, I am going to need a bit more information on these issues that you're seeing - the more specific you can be, the more quickly we'll be able to sort this out.

    Fields dont autofill consistently

Are there any particular sites that you are seeing fill fail on? We'd love to see a few URLs so we can do some testing here.

the log ins for any given site do not appear automatically as expected.

When you are not seeing a Login for a given site, can you confirm that the URL that you are viewing is the same as the URL saved in 1Password? 1Password 4 introduced something called 'precise domain matching'. This means that 1Password looks at both the domain (google.com) and the subdomain (accounts.google.com) when determining whether a Login matches a URL. If you'd like 1Password to only look at the domain (which is the behaviour you would be used to in version 3), you can enable 'Lenient URL Matching' in Preferences > Browser.

If there are any questions or concerns that you have about 1Password, please let us know!

I upgraded to 1P5 hoping that it would resolve the problems I've been having - but, alas, it didnt.

About half the time, logins will not autofill, even if I try to do it manually. Sometimes, restarting my Mac will temporarily resolve the problem.

Secondly, the pull down menu shows only half the accounts that have been setup.

    Please advise.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi @Casper250,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the 1Password extension! I noticed you posted about the same (or at least similar) issue several months ago, so I merged your new message with that discussion. Megan had asked some questions about that but we didn't hear back from you. Was it working correctly for you during the past few months, or have you been having the same problem the whole time? It may help to take a look back at Megan's response above.

Also, to clarify a couple things:

About half the time, logins will not autofill, even if I try to do it manually.

Just to be clear, 1Password doesn't actually have an "autofill" feature. It will only fill your data on a site when you explicitly tell it to do so by double-clicking a Login item in the main 1Password app, or by selecting the Login item from the 1Password extension in your web browser (or using the ⌘\ keyboard shortcut). Can you let us know how you're trying to have 1Password fill your Login info? What are the steps you take to "do it manually"?

Secondly, the pull down menu shows only half the accounts that have been setup.

It sounds like you're talking about the 1Password extension in your browser's toolbar. So, when you click that extension and go to the Logins sub-menu, you don't see you're entire list of Login items? Are you able to scroll down to see the rest?

It will also help if you can let us know the following details:

    • What exact version of Mac OS X are you running?
    • What exact version of the 1Password app is installed? (From the main 1Password app, go to the menu for 1Password > About 1Password)
    • Are you using the web store version or the Mac App Store version of 1Password?
    • What web browser are you using, and what version?
    • What version of the 1Password extension is installed in your browser?

Once we have some more information about the problem and your setup, we should have a better idea how to troubleshoot the issue. Thanks!

The problem I reported a while ago has persisted, so I paid for and downloaded 1P5, thinking the problems might be resolved.

I'm using OSX 10.10.2, 1Password 5, Web store version, Firefox 36.0.1, latest extension downloaded yesterday

When I speak of autofill, I mean that when i attempt to login to a given website, I click on the IP icon in the header bar, click on the website named in IP, and sometimes my user name and password "autofills"; Sometimes, it does not. If I restart my MAC, it will autofill for a brief period.

If I open the 1P app directly, all of my accounts appear, but not when I'm using the app through the header.

    Hi @Casper250,

Lets address these one at a time.

If you're seeing items in the main 1Password window that you don't see when using 1Password mini the most likely reason would be the display setting each item has. I'm going to link you to another post I've written recently which if you follow you can identify which items are set to not display. The post in question is here.

If this is the case then editing the items one by one and setting the display field from Never display in browser to Always will correct it. Upgrading wouldn't resolve this as it's a field setting in your data which would remain constant over upgrades.

If that corrects that issue we can move onto the second regarding intermittent filling. Let us know how you get along.
