how does one change the order of passwords that come up in web browser?

I have several passwords for a site and I want one of them to be the first on the list that comes up. I've tried renaming them with 1abc, 2xyz, or whatever, with no luck. and those that I have more than 2 will give me the "Show X more items" so I have to click more than once to fill in the correct password. any ideas?

    Hi @YamTolan‌

Can I just ask you to confirm what versions of OS X, 1Password and the 1Password extension that you're running please.

Things worth checking and reporting back on include

    • Do all of the Login items in question have the exact same URL in each? If they don't that can have an influence.
    • In 1Password's preferences, Advanced tab there is a checkbox for Sorting, do you have it checked?

I ask because I have 3 gmail Login items myself and I found that adding a number at the start or even after the word Gmail altered the ordering so I'm a little puzzled why it isn't working for you. Let us know and we'll work this out

just selected the "Sorting: Numbers and symbols are sorted first" checkbox. I'll restart Safari and see if that helps. thanks.

and I apologize, I ass-u-med I had 1Password5, so I should have posted the question there.

  • Hi @YamTolan,

The items in 1Password mini are sorted using three criteria — subdomain matching, favorites, and alphabetical order.

When a page is active in your web browser, the logins for that website will be displayed in this order (by default):

    1. Favorites (subdomain match)
    2. Alphabetical order (subdomain match)
    3. Favorites (same domain, but different subdomain) — you must click show x more items
    4. Alphabetical order (same domain, but different subdomain) — you must click show x more items

If Lenient URL matching (under Preferences > Browser) is enabled, subdomains will be ignored, and the sort order will be:

    1. Favorites (for any subdomain on domain.com)
    2. Alphabetical order (for any subdomain on domain.com)

Please let us know if that helps. :)

yes, thank you! I turned on Lenient URL matching and then added my preferred login to Favorites (which I had never used before). all hunky dory now, big relief – thanks again.

I was wondering what the Lenient URL matching meant.

  • You're welcome, @YamTolan! :)
