how to open a sparse image file and fill in password?

I have an encrypted sparse image that I would like to open using 1Password. How do I do this? I tried creating a login and entering "file://localhost/Users/Nancy/Documents/MyFiles.sparseimage" as the website. The password prompt pops up, but the password isn't filled in. Is there a way to do this (copy and paste doesn't work here). Thanks!

    Hi @uclanancy‌

Unfortunately there is no way to interact with DiskImageMounter's password dialog (that's the program that gets called when you double click on a disk image). We can't interact with it and as you've discovered you can't paste so that would seem to leave using either your OS X Keychain or typing it in.

My first post pretty much stopped there. Then I talked to one of the team and they told me something interesting. We have a program called Knox (which I knew) but it seems it uses its own custom password window and you can paste into that (which I didn't know). It works with standard encrypted disk images just like Disk Utility creates but you can paste into Knox's window.

You can check Knox out as it comes with a 30 day trial and you can find it at https://agilebits.com/knox

Much better than just saying sorry, I can't think of a solution.

Hi @littlebobbytables‌, thanks for getting back to me. With Knox, would I still have to copy and paste the password or will it be able to autofill? I don't know much about Knox, but I'll have a look. Thanks again!

    hi @uclanancy‌

Knox would allow you to copy and paste the password. Not as handy as autofill but better than typing if the password is really ugly. If you're a fan of keyboard short cuts there is a way to do it pretty efficiently despite no autofill.

    1. **⌥⌘** opens 1Password mini.
    2. Type a couple of characters to filter the list and bring focus onto your saved Password item (I figure that's the type you'd pick to store a disk image's password).
    3. With focus on your item use ⇧⌘C to copy the password. 1Password mini will disappear and return focus to wherever you were.
    4. ⌘V to paste.

That actually works anywhere of course, it isn't limited to just this particular scenario.
