Can same license work for iMac and MacBook Air?

I currently have 1P5 for iMac. I also want to put it onto my MacBook Air (also running Mavericks). I can't find a simple way to do that. Do I really need a separate license?

If you own and use both of those Macs yourself, you may install 1Password on both of them without additional charge. The way to do that depends on where you made your purchase. If fromApple, you'll be able to download it for free on all the Macs that share the same Apple ID or on all the Macs for the members of your family group, if you use family sharing. If you bought directly from AgileBits on their web store, the same applies, but you will need to install the license file you received after you made your buy, on each new Mac where you install it.

I should add that if you are on Mavericks, family sharing isn't impletented, so you will need to rely on using the same Apple ID. I believe Apple should show you version 4.x.x if you are on Mavericks. If you need to download a legacy copy from AgileBits, that can be found at the bottom of the Mac downloads page after the links for version 5.

  • Hi @jkill,

@hawkmoth is absolutely right. You shouldn't need a separate license. If you bought 1Password 5 from our website and not the Mac App Store, then you can simply activate it the same way you did your iMac, via the email we sent you. The license may say 1Password 5, but 1Password 4 will happy take it in. The license format didn't change at all.

Let us know if you need a hand with anything.

Still not working. I have found my key (I purchased from agilebits), I was mistaken as all computers are yosemite, and I still cant get 1password5 onto my new laptop. I have downloaded, but no place to insert code.

Sounds like it is already licensed. Especially considering you seeing "change license" as you sure its the correct version of 1Password launching.

Please note: 1Password 5 uses a license file and not a key so their is not a way to input a code. A code has not been used since 1Password 3

This is what a version 5 license screen looks like. The gold seal indicates it is indeed licensed. Also the license screen appears to be tweaked a little in the latest beta. It may not resemble my screenshot 100%.

    • It may help us to help you if you were able to post a screenshot. Make sure to obscure any personal information like a license key if it is being shown.
