Upgrade from 1Password 3 to 1Password 5 Mac AppStore

Hi!

I was using 1password for some years, and I really like it. 1Password 3 was enough for me, but currently I need to sync over iCloud (it's easier), so I would like to upgrade to 1password 5.

I enter to upgrade, and insert my licence key, and the final price is 25$, so I would like to buy it, but I'm not sure if I'm buying a coupon for redeem in AppStore, or is 'web version' without iCloud enabled, could you confirm me that?

How can I pay 25$ to download AppStore version? I can not spend 45$ for a new version, sorry...

Thanks and happy new year!

The first point to make is that if you need to use iCloud you must buy 1P5 from the Mac App Store. The AgileBits store version of 1P5 doesn't support iCloud sync because of changes made by Apple. I think you're aware of that from what you say but I'm just reinforcing the point.

I'm sorry, but I don't think there's any way you can apply the discount to the Mac App Store version. I guess you could wait for a sale, which happens from time to time (although I've no idea when the next one might come along).

    Hi Jorge,

We're not able to offer upgrade pricing on the Mac App Store, unfortunately. If you'd like to purchase from the Mac App Store (which is required for iCloud sync), you would need to pay the full price.

Like Stephen mentioned, the Mac App Store version does go on sale occasionally, though I'm not how long you would have to wait for another sale.

Sorry I don't have a better answer for you, but please let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi, first of all, thanks for your quick answer!

I'm sad because my trial expired some days ago, and I can not add new passwords to 1password. I'll be waiting for any deal about 1Password for Mac, maybe new year is a good date to have offers about that :)

Anyway, I'm developer for iOS, and in AppStore (like Mac appstore), developers can provide coupons to redeem by an application free of charge. I mean, that's would a good way to change old licenses by AppStore licences, and is no-work for developers. Have you try this way in other cases?

    Thanks and happy new year!

    Hi @Jorge Maroto

Thanks for getting back to us! Apple does provide us with a few promo codes for each version update to 1Password that we release, but not in a sufficient quantity to allow us to use them as a way to transfer licenses from our webstore to the Mac App Store.

Personally, if you're looking for a simple sync, I recommend looking into Dropbox. It's just as automatic as iCloud and has the additional flexibility to sync Multiple Vaults which is a great new feature in 1Password 4 and 5. Using Dropbox means you could purchase now and take advantage of your upgrade discount on 1Password 5 from our website.

If you're set on iCloud, I can't provide details on any future sales, but we'll be sure to announce them when they happen on our blog, Twitter (@1Password) and Facebook.

Ok, I'll be waiting for that because I need iCloud sync.

    Thanks.

HI @Jorge Maroto‌ Sorry it wasn't better news but as a developer yourself you must be aware of key areas where you'd love Apple to improve the customer experience.

    My understanding is:

    • No viable way to migrate users from one version to another.
    • No ability to offer individual discounts (either for migrating users or people upgrading)
    • No way to maintain multiple version branches or easily allow a user to download a previous version.

You may have other areas where you've felt a need that hasn't been addressed too.
