Confused - my license became a "TRIAL PERIOD"

In December 2012 I purchased a $69.99 1Password 3 for Mac Family License. Now when I use it, it's telling me that my TRIAL PERIOD has expired. I have no desire (or extra cash) to spend another $25 to upgrade to the newer version (which is what I was told when I plugged in my license code here on your site). Please advise.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

    Hi @SweetTKaplan‌

As you have discovered, 1Password 4/5 was a paid upgrade from 1Password 3. While of course we'd like you to upgrade you certainly aren't compelled to, your licence for 1Password 3 allows you to run version 3 for as long you're using a compatible version of OS X. While I haven't used it extensively 1Password 3 does run in Yosemite. I couldn't find your licence though based on just your email address here in the forums (just wanted to check the date). Does that help at all?

Yes, thanks. I purchased the license as a gift to my husband, so it's probably under his email address. Maybe I'll upgrade a bit later. Right after Christmas just isn't a good time ;)

@SweetTKaplan - The single user license now permits installing the application on the Macs of as many as six family members in the same household. So you can upgrade without additional charge whenever you are ready under the license you gave to your husband as a gift.

Thank you for the info, Hawkmoth. Could you please tell me how to do that?

When you bought your license, you received an email with instructions for installing the license file, or at least you should have. You would just move a copy of that license file to your new machine, and install it into 1Password there too. I think you should only have to double click the file while 1Password is open.

Another possibly helpful tip is that when I installed version 5, it automatically created a record for itself in the Software category that had the license file included as an attachment. That would be another way to get that needed file.

There are instructions from AgileBits in the knowledge base; check them out here.

  • Hi @SweetTKaplan‌,

It's unclear to me whether the license you bought for your husband was the 1Password 3 license, or if it was for v4/5. If it was for 1Password 3, then you won't be able to use that to upgrade without additional charge as @hawkmoth indicated. But once either of you has a v4/5 license, you can give it to the other family member without additional charge.

    I hope this helps.

It is (I am copy/pasting from the email I received): 1Password 3 for Mac Family License. I have to say, I'm not happy that I paid $70 for it just 2 years ago (December 22, 2012) and I am now being told I have to pay an additional $25 to upgrade. I guess I'll just stick with what I have.

I paid for 1Password but now getting messages that the trial has expired. I have the license # and have tried to enter it to no avail. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue or how to reach a live person?

@Meem‌ please see the sticky right at the top of the forum. Read that and if it doesn't solve your problem please post again explaining how and why it doesn't.
