I use 1password 5.02. I can install the extension on Safari 8.02 ( Yosemite 10.10.1) and it works. If I close safari and start safari up again, the extension 1password 4.2.5 is gone. Safari starts on a weared page which is not my home page. Starting Safari with shift pressed starts up on my homepage but the extension 1password is gone. All other extension are staying and are not effected.

    Hi @bernd‌,

Thanks for taking the time to write to us

Try and reboot your Mac, then reinstall the 1Password Safari Extension from here.

    Does this solve the problem?

    Cheers!

thanks for the help but it did not solve the issue

  • Hi @bernd,

Do you use a proxy? If yes, can you temporary disable it and see if that'll resolve the issue?

    Hi @bernd‌

I assume when you say the 1Password Safari extension is gone that you mean it is like it was never installed, as in no trace of it in the Extensions tab of Safari's preferences? If you attempt to install any other plugin does the problem happen with those too?

I wonder if something in Safari has become corrupted and isn't saving information correctly. It might help to know how many extensions you use at the moment as maybe purging the extensions database might help. It would require re-installing the extensions you were using though hence the question.

As said in my opening question, this only is for the 1password extension.
You are right: I mean it is like it was never installed, as in no trace of it in the Extensions tab of Safari's preferences?
I have 2 more extension, video2mp3 and avast, i had both uninstalled and reinstalled and enabled /not enabled, they always stay, 1password is gone after restart of Safari.

    Hi @bernd‌

Given you've got only two extensions I think it will be worth resetting Safari's extensions database. So to start make sure Safari is not opened.

    Preference plist

Open a Finder window and use the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G to open a Go to the folder window. Use the following location

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist and click the Go button.

Drag the highlighted file to your Trash.

    Safari Extensions List

Launch Keychain Access which you can find in /Applications/Utilities/. Search on the word safari and you should have 3 entries in the results. You want to right click on Safari Extensions List and select the Delete "Safari Extensions List" option.

After those two, reboot your Mac and you'll need to go through the steps of installing your extensions again. With a little luck whatever got messed up was in there and the 1Password extension will now load and stay. Start with that one first.

Let us know how you get along.

    Hi
thank you for your fast responses, i appreciate your support.
Have done what you proposed, the result is that when I restart safari now the extensions (all Three) are still there but all are "not enabled"
    And a windows says:
Your Safari extensions have been migrated
you can choose the one you want to use
    button to open preferences
    I can enable them again
I tried this with just password alone and with all three ...same result ALL extension are disabled after restart of safari

    Hi @bernd‌

Some times I really do hate Safari.

Okay, repeat what you did before but also add in another step, see if if the situation improves at all.

The extra step is, in Finder go to the following folder (using the same method as detailed above) ~/Library/Safari/Extensions/ and drag the entire folder to your Trash then follow it up with a reboot. Safari will recreate the folder and hopefully that sorts out the permissions issue.

If it doesn't this discussion in Apple's forums might help. While you're no doubt running a more current version of Safari most of the troubleshooting suggestions revolve around the idea that permissions have gotten messed up and may need reset.

Let us know how you get along.

I erased the total Safary file , only kept the bookmarks, and restarted the computer...now it works...had to reinstall all extensions of course..it works

Thank you for your support I appreciate it... and it was Safari not 1password who screwed up

Hi @bernd‌ That's great to hear that it's working again. We've had a few reports of people having problems with getting the extension to install and it seems getting Safari to play nicely can be a pain.
