Is 1Password 4 dead?

I wanted to find out if the development for v.4 is now dead as like many others, I refuse to move to Yosemite. I will move to Windows 10 before Yosemite. I have been using and supporting 1Password since the its' inception and hate to have to give it up now. Please let us know if there are plans to support Mavericks with version 5 in the future. Or is it time to start looking for another password manager?

    Hi @wrk24wheel‌

We will of course support 1Password 4 customers here in the forums and where required in emails but active development of 1Password 4 has now finished. That doesn't preclude the possibility of a security update in the future of course if for any reason it was necessary but focus is on 1Password 5.

As for Mavericks compatibility being re-introduced. I would so it's probably quite unlikely. We wouldn't restrict ourselves purposely to just Yosemite unless we were using frameworks specific to it. I would say also assume that maintaining compatibility was going to prove too complicated for whatever reason. So if Yosemite is a deal breaker and continuing to use 1Password 4 is a deal breaker then we may not be the best fit for you at this point in time.

What I would say is this is often the way of the Apple ecosystem. It has always moved at a significant pace and many software companies have to make the harsh decision to forgo compatibility at some point. I myself used 1Password 3 for longer than intended because I wasn't a fan of Lion but upgraded once Snow Leopard came out. Until I did that though I was missing out on updates from many of my favoured programs. It also meant that while Snow Leopard was free that day certainly wasn't as I went through a spate of upgrades. Sorry it isn't the response you were probably hoping for.
