Database Backup Failed

I use 1P on three Macs. One of which has been tossing up messages that say:

Database Backup Failed
The 1Password Database could not be backed up.
Database exists but is invalid. One or more keys files may be missing.

I used App Zapper to totally delete 1P and reinstalled it.
Upon reinstall, it automatically found my database on Dropbox and loaded it.
Within an hour or so the above message reappeared.

Please help and reply to [email deleted] since I really don't have the time to check this board.

Thanks so much,
David Winograd

After long use of 1Password over a period of several years with no errors and no problems, the error message noted by DavidW above is popping up each and every time I re-start. I'm running OS X 10.10.2 [latest & greatest] and 1Password v5.1 [no betas]. Using AppCleaner, I deleted 1Password v5.1; I reinstalled it. Same result as DavidW: error message continues to pop up at re-start. Appears there are two (2) back-up folders: one associated with an older version of 1Password; one associated with 1Password v5.1. Could this be part (or all) of the problem? Supplemental note: I'm unable to find ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist anywhere on my Mac. Followed instructions set forth in knowledge base article listed above by Stephen_C and no luck.

[edit]: 1Password v5.1 is now storing my back-ups to 1Password 4's back-up library [Library > Application Support > 1Password4 > Backups] rather than 1Password 5's back-up library [Library > Application Support > 1Password4 > Backups]. Is this the source of the problem? If so, I don't see a way, in 1Password v5.1, to change the location of the back-ups.

    Hi @ab2,

I'm sorry you're also getting the "Database Backup Failed" error! That error is actually caused by 1PasswordAgent, which is a component left over from 1Password 3. Most likely, everything is working fine in 1Password 5, including the backups. The error message only applies to 1Password 3, which is ok since you're not using that version anymore.

Can you please make sure you've followed these steps:

    1. From the Finder, go to the menu option for Go > Go to Folder...
    2. In the Go to the folder field that appears, copy and paste the following text and press Return: ~/Library/LaunchAgents
    3. Delete ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist
    4. Go back to the menu option for Go > Go to Folder…
    5. Copy and paste the following text and press Return: ~/Library/Application Support/1Password
    6. Delete the Agent folder
    7. Restart your Mac

Are you still unable to find the ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist file in step 2? Were you able to delete the Agent folder in step 6? Finally, did you make sure to restart your Mac?

To answer your other question, 1Password 4 and 1Password 5 use the same location to store backups, which is why 1Password 5 saves backups in the 1Password 4 folder.

Please let us know how it all goes and if you need more help with that. Thanks!

Worked! Many thanks, Drew_AG! Completed steps 1 through 7, inclusive; was able to find and delete ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist. Error message gone.
