Error message running incorrect version of 1Password Mini

Not sure what is going on. Every few months I get this message when I restart my iMac. Does not occur often but it does. The message is indicating that I was running a version from my SuperDuper backup disc. I do keep the SuperDuper backup drive attached to my iMac. I don't understand why it can work for months then all of a sudden say that I am running the version off the SuperDuper drive. When I open 1Password, I open in from my Application folder on the iMac. I do I resolve this so I don't have to go bonkers every few months to get 1Password to work properly. I restarted the iMac with the SuperDuper disc ejected so I am assuming I am running the correct version of the 1Password mini app. If I attach the SuperDuper drives again, can I be sure that I have resolved the problem?

I'm guessing you're running 1P5 under OS X Yosemite. Yosemite can get into a muddle if there is more than one copy of 1P on any disk attached to your Mac, and wander off and launch the wrong one. I guess nobody really knows why it happens only one some occasions and not others (for otherwise presumably someone would have come up with a proper fix).

The usual recommended solution is to exclude from backup the actual 1P app file—and to delete any existing copy of the 1P app file already on your backup disk. (If you have a disaster and need to restore you can always re-download the app file, of course.) There has been a recent AgileBits suggestion of another procedure that may solve the problem: disconnect the backup disk, reboot the Mac, re-start 1P and, if the correct version launches (as it should) re-connect the backup disk and see if 1P continues to work properly. However, I've not yet seen any user feedback on that latest suggestion so am not sure if it's working or not.

  • Hi @rbarr,

You'll want to setup an Exclusion in SuperDuper such that it stops backing up the 1Password app, then delete the 1Password app from the SuperDuper backup drive. That's the only way to properly solve this issue if using SuperDuper. Once you've done this, reboot your Mac, and re-launch 1Password. This should set things correctly again and you shouldn't experience issues in the future.

I really wish we had a better workaround for this Yosemite bug. I get bit by this problem about 10 times a day as I'm developing the app and so I have dozens of copies of it on my disk. Keeping every one of them hidden from the system is a full-time job.
