Require help with reinstalling / moving 1Password 5 v5.1 from one device to another device
I'm currently running1Password 5 Version 5.1 (510035) on my mid 2011 iMac. Within a week I'll be receiving delivery of a new iMac and I'd like to make sure I have a smooth transition with reinstalling my existing 1Password 5 v5.1 over to the new iMac. Apple support suggested I don't use their utility Migration Assistant when moving data from an old iMac over to the new iMac. Instead they suggested I only move (manually) what is necessary over to the new iMac. This would eliminate copying over unnecessary files. With this in mind would someone provide a link or documentation that outlines the necessary steps to accomplish this? The last thing I don't want to end up doing is manually entering all my password entries manually into the new installed 1Password 5 on the new iMac. Please advise, thanks.

Hi @kpq8702,
I can guarantee you definitely won't need to re-enter all of your password manually.
Our Starting Over guide is oddly enough what you're looking for. Not only does it let a user know what to remove to start over but it also informs users like yourself what you'll want to copy over.
It will cover if you purchased 1Password 5 directly from us, Agile Web Store (AWS), or via Apple's Mac App Store (MAS).
Now will you be keeping your two iMacs together for a while to ease the transition from one to the other? If you can you'll find that advantageous (from my own personal experience).

Thank you for your quick response. Question - My 1Password 5 application was purchased from your AWS, once I've copied those files listed within the documentation labeled 'Starting Over' to the new IMac desktop, do I just copy the 1Password application from the applications folder over to the new iMac, launch the application 1Password from the new iMac and it will see the data files I've copied over to the desktop location? If this works can I then delete the copied files from the desktop location or will 1Password 5 require them to always be located on the desktop to be able to know their location to work properly? Please advise, thanks.

Hi @kpq8702,
The easiest option is to copy from one location to the same location (but on the new machine). So knowing you purchased the AWS version.
On your existing iMac you will find the following folder:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
That's the main folder and it contains your vault and the backup files. If you copy the
1Password 4
folder over to your new iMac and place it in~/Library/Application Support/
then that's pretty much all you need to do. You can copy the preference files (the .plist ones) across as well to reduce the amount of configuration you'll need to do but the big part is that folder. You can copy the application over from your old machine or download a fresh copy from our AgileBits Download page, whichever you prefer. The one thing you'll need to do regardless if your approach is to reapply your licence file. That's easy to do and it may already be in a Software Licence item in your vault. If it isn't and you don't have the original email you can request all of your licences to be resent to you via our AgileBits Support page.
Let us know if you have any more questions
