USERID Wipes Out

I use several sites, where after I enter the USERID & Password from 1Password, the USERID is wiped out and I must enter it manually. Some examples are Fidelity and Capital One. Is there some fix that can be made to 1Password?

    Hi @BarryW,

The first thing you can try is to manually save a new Login for each site where you're having a problem.

If that doesn't work, try disabling auto-submit for those Login items:

    • Open the main 1Password app and select one of those Login items
    • Click the Edit button
    • Change the submit setting for that item to Never submit
    • Click Save

Now try the Login item again. Is the form filled correctly? (Please note that you'll need to click the login/submit button on that page once the form is filled.)

The above did not work. Now the USERID Field does not even seem to attempt to fill. Previously, it would fill but immediately be wiped out. Now it deos not even look like it is filling at all.

  • @BarryW,

Can you please send me the URLs to the login pages in question?

    Thanks.

Have you been able to discover any solution?

  • Hi @BarryW,

I was able to reproduce the issue here using the capitalone URL you provided. The issue did not reproduce for me on the fidelity URL though. I've created a bug in our system (OPX-803) so that one of our extension developers can take a look at this and determine what's going on here and see if there's anything we can do about it from our side.

Thanks for reporting this. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find a good workaround.

  • Thanks for reporting this issue Barry.

I played with the CapitalOne login page quite a bit to see what was happening there and it turns out they have a lot of JavaScript that fires when the username value changes and when focus changed.

I am not able to recreate the issue in the 4.3.0 beta extension. We handle things quite a bit differently there and are no longer tickling this bug as far as I can tell.

Would you be able to try out the beta and see how well it works for you? You can get the browser extension beta from https://agilebits.com/onepassword/extensions by clicking the Enable Betas link. You will also need to install the beta of the main 1Password app, which you can do from the Preferences > Updates window, assuming you are using the Webstore version of 1Password.

Please let us know how it turns out.

I am using Version 5.3 Beta 11. I actually already install every Beta release that 1 Password releases. Is there something else i should also be doing? If not, then as of Version 5.3 Beta 11 this problem still exists.

  • Great! So you are at least half way there :)

Do you have the beta version of the extension?

I loaded the extension from Firefox. No difference.

  • Hi @BarryW,

In Firefox, go to the Tools Menu > Add-ons, and next to the 1Password extension, what is the version listed next to it?

One more thing, please open the main 1Password app, search for your CaptialOne item, and select it to view its details. Does it have your username saved?

    version 4.2.5
All the information is saved and is correct. When I go to certain sites (Capital One or Fidelity ) the USERID gets entered but is almost immediately wiped out. The PASSWORD information is kept. I then manually have to enter the USERID and I get accepted into the site. The one thing these sites have in common is that my wife and I each have a USERID (different) and a Password (which is the same for both of us).

  • Hi @BarryW,

    version 4.2.5

That's the stable version of the 1Password extension. Would you be willing to try the beta version? If yes, let us know, and we'll explain how to proceed.

The one thing these sites have in common is that my wife and I each have a USERID (different) and a Password (which is the same for both of us).

Are both of you using the same 1Password database or are you guys sync'ing the same secondary vault?

a Password (which is the same for both of us).

This is very risky to do, you should not reuse password anywhere and that applies with your family members as well. If one of your sites' database is breached and the criminal figures out you and your family reuses the same password, they'll use that on every other sites on the Internet.

Every site we use has different passwords. We only use the same password for a given site since we both see the same thing. Yes, I would be willing to try the Beta Version. Just let me know what to do. Like I said earlier, I am already using Beta versions of the Computer based App.

    Hi @BarryW,

    To install the beta extension:

    Does that make any difference?

Fixed for Capital One site but www.fidelity.com still has the same problem. But we are making progress. How do I fix Safari and Google Chrome? The Beta I entered was only for Firefox - Correct?

How do I keep current with Browser Plugins as new Betas are released? I get notified about the Computer App everytime a New Beta is released but I have never received any notifications about Browser Beta releases.

    Hi @BarryW,

You can repeat the same steps I gave you to install the beta extension in Safari and Chrome. You'll just need to open that link in each of those browsers instead of in Firefox. Each browser should automatically install updates to the 1Password beta extension, so you won't see notifications about that.

Does the beta extension work better with Safari and Chrome?

I am now really confused. I loaded the Beta Versions in Firefox, Safari, and Google. Safari & Firefox work for Capital One but both do not work for Fidelity (this is confusing part - explained in a minute). Google does not work for either Capital One or Fidelity.

Under further testing, I discovered this strange result (at least strange to me). For Fidelity, I have 3 different entries in 1Password. I have an Entry for Fidelity (Barry), an entry for Fidelity (Cory) and an entry for Fidelity (Jane). All 3 entries have different Userids but use the same Password. All 3 entries have Display set to Always and Submit set to Never. If I click on Fidelity (Barry) or Fidelity (Cory) the password is entered correctly but the Userid is wiped out. However, if I click on Fidelity (Jane) everything works perfectly and does so for all the Browsers. Why should one work but not the other two when all the settings are identical?

    Hi @BarryW,

While the visible username and password are obviously a big part of a Login item, the web form details specify where the information should be filled based on the page at the time it was recorded. If the page has changed over time it can cause one version of a Login item to not work while a newer does.

How do the web form details compare on these three items? Just as important as the data being filled is where it is and you would be stunned at how many invisible or hidden fields a seemingly simple page might have. Underneath the top layer can be an absolute mess depending on the site in question.

When I click on Show Web Form Details everything looks the same on all 3 forms but only 1 Form seems to work.

    Hi @BarryW,

Certainly that is puzzling. I had expected some form of difference there to help explain what you're seeing.

I know you tried the Saving a Login Manually steps earlier in the thread but I believe that was before switching to both the 1Password for Mac and extension betas. Does it make any difference if you go through those steps once again. The difference is the new filling logic is involved in creating this new Login. I've viewed Logins created in both the stable and beta and they are different. Even then, I don't understand why you're having such problems with Fidelity as the Login item I created using the stable version of 1Password and extension fills okay for me in both Safari and Firefox.

If you're still having issues I can only wonder if another extension you have might be somehow involved although I can't imagine how.

That worked. I manual created 3 new Logins for each Fidelity Account and at least in Firefox everything now works.

Everything now works correctly in Safari and in Firefox but when I use Google and select the same item from the 1 Password options that worked in Firefox and safari it does not work in Google. Do I need to create a Manual Save that I use specifically in Google?

Tried new manual saves for Google but it did not help. For these 2 sites, Google will not fill in the USERID. No big deal since I mostly use Safari and Firefox and these now work.

    Hi @BarryW,

Well I'm still confused. Fidelity do this odd thing with your username which you're aware of already but other than that I can get it to fill in with the stable and beta on all three browsers. Why it seems to hate you so much is very baffling.
