Secure note window not always updated when deleting a note

I found this fairly minor issue when moving secure notes out of 1Password due to the current issues.

When I delete a secure note, the note is removed from the note list but a few times (not always) the window on the right does not get updated - it still contains the contents of the deleted note. Note: not sure but the deleted note may need to have a good amount of text - more than a window's worth. That was the case in the one example I clearly saw.

1Password 5.1 (510035); OSX 10.10.2

  • Hi @ag1pwun,

Thanks for writing in about this. Can I get a bit of clarification about what you're seeing? How are you deleting the secure note? Do you mean trashing, or deleting? After you've trashed/deleted the note, does another item get selected in the list? Is it just the secure note's contents that stay, or does the title? i.e does anything in the detail pane get updated?

I've tried to reproduce this here and was unable to. Would love steps that would allow me to reproduce this so that we can fix this up.

    Rick

The notes were being moved to the trash. The item was deleted from the list and it scrolled up. So in the inserted image the list would contain notes B, C and D. But over on the right, the note content was that of note A. I can't recall if it was just the text or the text and the note title that was incorrectly displayed. I've been trying to reproduce for close to an hour now with no luck. I will certainly update this post if I can reproduce it or can provide any other helpful information.

    Hi @ag1pwun,

Thanks for the additional information and screenshot! :)

Did this previously happen just one time, or more than once? I haven't been able to reproduce the problem either, so if it happens again and you're able to give us any extra details that might help us reproduce it, we'd certainly appreciate it.

One question I just thought of (although I don't know if it makes a difference): When you deleted the Secure Note, did you select it and press the Delete key, or right-click and select Move to Trash, or drag & drop to the Trash? If this has happened more than once, do you remember if you deleted those items the same way each time? Thanks!

    Hi Drew,

I'm pretty sure it happened twice, but it certainly wasn't reproducible today. When I noticed it I was more focused on the secure note editing issue where text becomes invisible (but apparently stays intact) which was disconcerting. That was news to me and my thoughts were focused on how to deal with the bug and where to move the notes until these issues are fixed.

I don't remember the keystrokes/command used at the time. I know it wasn't drag & drop, which I didn't know about. For my testing today I used the Delete key, which is confirmed with a dialog, and the right click Move to Trash command, which is not. When it happened I was repeatedly editing my notes, including one long one, to view the bug symptoms. 1Password was left open as I copied text out to text files. Today I tried editing the notes, scrolling, deleting various notes but no luck.

Note that if you delete a note with a full window of text and the note below it has a small amount, the delete happens, the long note text is removed, then, most of the time for me, the long note text briefly flashes on the screen below the short note text. The problem that I saw is like the long note text reappears but stays there instead of flashing and being removed.

  • Hi @ag1pwun,

We have fixed that bug already in the latest 1Password 5.3 betas. I suspect the same fix applies to the other interface glitches related to the secure notes.

If you'd like, you can test the beta and see if it is truly fixed for you or you can wait for the update to be released. I don't have a timeframe on when 5.3 is coming out but it shouldn't be a long wait. (5.2 version is skipped in order to sync up the Mac and iOS versions).

The problem of incorrect note content displayed on the right of the screen happened today when deleting two passwords from the bottom of the list. I have a screen shot that shows the symptoms. The shot is fairly large and I'd prefer not to post here. If support would like to see it please let me know where to send it. Still 1Password 5.1 (510035); OSX 10.10.2.

    Hi @ag1pwun,

As long as your screenshot doesn't show anything too sensitive then please feel free to email us the image at support+forum@agilebits.com, mentioning this thread (the URL is https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/36483/secure-note-window-not-always-updated-when-deleting-a-note) and your username here in the forums. That will allow us to link the two up but if you were to post the ticket ID here afterwords that could help us locate the post

    Hi @ag1pwun,

Thank you for the ticket ID.

I can't replicate your findings so we'll see if somebody else has more luck. As we move closer to a potential v5.3 for Mac release it will be interesting to see if that resolves your issues.

I just reproduced it on the second try so I'll try again with v5.3.

    I hope 5.3 helps
