1Password from AgileBits Store vs AppStore

I've been a 1Password user since before I can remember (was there a version 3?). At some point, the app grew up and mitosis has entered it into the AppStore. Can my license be transferred to the AppStore version? or do I have to purchase an AppStore license?

Unfortunately you cannot transfer from webstore version to App Store version without paying again. Apple doesn't offer a way of transferring.

AgileBits are in a difficult situation here, but I'm not sure they have made the best decision.

  • Hi @LaFierce,

If you do not use iCloud sync, then the website version would be identical to the MAS version. You'll be able to use Dropbox and/or Wi-Fi sync with your mobile devices and other computers. There is also the Folder Sync but it is only usable for desktops as it can't be used on iOS platform.

1Password 5 or 4 depending on your OS X version is a paid upgrade for 1Password 3 customers. If you want to grab 1Password 4/5 for Mac at the Mac App Store, you do need to purchase the app there. Unfortunately, Apple does not allow us to offer upgrade pricing for existing customers, which means you can only get 1Password 5 at our web store with the upgrade discount.

In addition, Apple does not allow us to offer iCloud sync in the website version on Yosemite, which means you'd need 1Password at the Mac App Store instead.

If you purchased 1Password within the last 30 days, we can still give you a full refund and you can grab the 1Password app at the Mac App Store but only at the full price.
