1Password creates new entries when logging in with different passwords

1p 5.1 on Mac 10.10.2. I've noticed that if 1p has a login stored, but I login to a website using a different password (because the 1p password is old or just wrong for some reason), 1p does not ask me if I want to update the password in its existing entry for the website login. Instead it just creates a brand new duplicate (but now with correct password) entry. It's a real pain to go and delete these entries which contain the wrong or old passwords. I do not see any 1p settings that will tell 1p to ask me if I want to update the existing website login password I just used. I can see that you might want multiple logins for the same website, but I don't like that 1p assumes I want multiple entries and doesn't have an option to ask me if I want to update the existing password. Is there a setting for this that I may be missing?

Sometimes 1PW creates a duplicate, sometimes it asks if you want to update. I'm sure there is a logic in this that an Agile person can explain. It may be a matter of having slightly different URLs in the two logins.

    Hi @ckp,

As danco mentioned, it's possible this is happening if you have a slightly different URL in the original Login item, so 1Password may think you're trying to create a brand new Login.

When you log into the site with a new password, it sounds like a 1Password Save Login window appears so you can save a new Login? If so, click on the option for "Save new Login" and you should see another option for "Update existing Login". If you are able to select the "Update" option, go ahead and do that, and 1Password will update your Login item with the new password. If that option is grayed out, it means 1Password can't find an existing Login item that matches the URL for that site in your vault, which brings us back to danco's suggestion.

In case it helps, if you need to change a login password for a website, you can do so by following the steps here.

If you need more help with that, please let us know! :)
