1Password Mac forgot everything - thinks it's my first launch

I tried searching the forums, but I haven't find my solution yet. I'm getting the first launch splash screen after having used my existing configuration for quite some time. I haven't performed any actions that I know of that could have caused it, except that I used AdwareMedic to recover from the inexcusable Ask.com adware inclusion in Java 8's most recent update. I've been successfully using Dropbox sync, and my iOS 1Password use appears not to have been interrupted. Can you provide simple steps for setting up a fresh configuration so that I can resume my Dropbox sync configuration and bring existing items from that vault back to my Mac, or steps for recovering the lost 1Password configuration, please? Thanks.

  • Hi @throwtura,

Whoa. That's not cool. I'm sorry that you're having to go through this. Did you use any type of App Cleaner tools too? Those are known to cause problems with 1Password as they go and delete files that we need.

The good news is that if you were syncing everything with your iOS device via Dropbox, getting back up to speed should be straight forward.

If you're still at the First Run experience screen where 1Password asks you if you're a new user or you've used it before, you can indicate that you've used it before, and point it to the AgileKeychain file on Dropbox.

If you've already setup a new empty Primary Vault, then you can go into Preferences > Sync, and sync it to dropbox, to have it re-sync all the items back in.

If you had any secondary vaults that weren't syncing with iOS, then we'll have to go looking in your Trash to see if we can find the delete files for your databases. Let us know and we can give you a hand with that.

I hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

    Rick
