Keyboard shortcut to close the anchored mini window

Like some other users on the forum, I strongly agree that a keyboard shortcut for closing the anchored mini window would be great for workflow improvement, (especially since a shortcut for anchoring the window was suggested and added)

There were two posts in 2014 about this, and both were closed now.

However, I haven't seen any news about this feature in the release note, and that's why I'm posting this again.

Did I miss it or has it not been added yet?

    Hi @vicjang,

    Good question! The short answer is no, it's still not possible to use Cmd+W to close an anchored window from 1Password mini. However, it is possible to close one with Esc or with Cmd+. but the catch is that the anchored window needs to be focused with title bar enabled. To do that, you'd normally need to click on the title bar of that window, but it's easier to just click the red button to close it.

    I'm sorry I don't have a better answer! Our developers haven't forgotten about this feature request, but it's tricky due to needing the anchored window needing to have focus for the keyboard shortcuts to work. The point of anchoring the detail view is largely to be able to easily copy/paste fields from the item into fields in another app, so the focus needs to be in the app by default, rather than in the anchored window (that's sort of a simplified explanation, but hopefully it makes some sense). Making it easier to close that window with a keyboard shortcut might make using the anchored window a bit less convenient to use in the first place, so we want to avoid that happening.

    It's definitely still something our developers are looking into though, so hopefully we'll have a better solution for you at some point in the future. If you have more questions about that, please let us know. Thanks! :)

    @Drew_AG ,

    I do understand your explanation and it actually taught me something I didn't know!
    I never realized that the focus is in the app to be pasted in instead of the the 1Password mini until now.
    So I always first click copy on the mini window, and then click the app (Chrome for example), and then Cmd+V to paste.
    Now I know that I can click copy, and then simply Cmd+V directly! (If my cursor is in the right field of course.)

    The design logic makes sense to me now and there's no need IMO to make changes. Clicking the red button isn't too much of a trouble since I've been clicking the copy button anyway.

    Thanks for your reply!

    Hi @vicjang, I'm glad I was able to help to explain that! I remember when I first realized I didn't need to click back and forth between the mini/anchored window and the app in order to copy/paste - I think I first did that by accident, and it was like a light bulb appeared over my head, like a cartoon. ;)

    I'm happy that helps! If you ever have more questions or need anything else, we're here for you.
