Duplicate 1Password application
Hello,
I noticed that I have two 1Password applications in my /Applications folder.
I presume one is to be deleted but I can't decide which one.
Can you tell me what to do?

Hi @MichelMorat,
You seem to have a copy of 1Password 5 from both Apple's Mac App Store (MAS) and our Agile Web Store (AWS). The MAS one is titled 1Password while the AWS version is titled 1Password 5. Now they do store their vaults in different locations so the first thing we need to do is identify which version holds your current vault. We want it to be the 1Password one but it's best to confirm.
Can you launch 1Password please and make a note of how many items are in the vault and the date of the most recently modified. You can do that by altering the sort order of your vault. Under the search box do you see where it probably says X items sorted by Title, if you click there you can sort by Date Modified. Quit 1Password using the keyboard shortcut
⌃⌘Q
. Now do the same with 1Password 5.If 1Password contains your current vault all is good and you can simply drag the **1Password 5 ** application to your Trash.
If 1Password 5 contains your current vault we'll want to transfer this back the MAS version before we remove 1Password 5. To do that you will want to follow our How do I start over with an empty vault? guide, following the MAS section only. When you start the MAS version after rebooting it will pick up the AWS vault and import it. Then you can remove the 1Password 5 application.
If you have any questions regarding any of this please do ask.

Hello,
OK, I understand now why I lost some items, they were in the other vault.
Having OS X and iOS, I felt the MAS version with iCloud was the best solution.
Is this version will be maintained with the same perenniality? Not being a "native english language", I had some difficulties to understand all consequences for each solution.
Having not any Dropbox or any service-lke but iCloud, I understood that the MAS version was the only one possible, can you make it more clear for me?
Can I Sync my Macs and iOS devices without any dropbox and iCloud services?Cordialement,

Hi @MichelMorat,
The main difference between the web store and Mac App Store versions of 1Password 5 for Mac is that iCloud sync is only available in the Mac App Store version (both versions have Dropbox, Wi-Fi, and Folder Sync options). Otherwise, they have the same features. There are a few, minor differences which you can read about here. We fully support both versions of 1Password for Mac, and updates are almost always released for both versions around the same time.
Since you've already purchased the Mac App Store version, it probably makes sense to continue using that one. If you're also using 1Password 5 for iOS, you can sync them using iCloud, Dropbox, or Wi-Fi sync. You can find more information about syncing options in this User Guide article.
Were you able to migrate all your data to the Mac App Store version of 1Password? If you need more help with that, please let us know. Thanks! :)

Thank you,
That is clear now, I choose the MAS solution and progressively do the migration of differences with my old 1Password 5.
I think I have 1Password 5 because I have loaded it for a demo before buying, that is not possible on MAS.
I noticed by the way two little things:
1) It is not possible to copy-paste an item, but that may be more secure so.
2) I could not find the way, on screen, to see to which category belongs an item (on print it is shown under the title)
Iicon is not discriminant because they area lot and it can be changed), do I missed something to have it ?Cordialement,

Hi @MichelMorat ,
1) It is not possible to copy-paste an item, but that may be more secure so.
You're right, you cannot copy and paste to move an item from one instance of 1Password to another. To share an item with another 1Password user, you can use the Item > Share menu and share using Mail or Messages.
To move your items from the
1Password 5
app into the1Password
app, you can use the export feature and select .1pif format. It is important to note that this method is not encrypted, so you'll want to be sure that you securely delete the file after you have imported it.2) I could not find the way, on screen, to see to which category belongs an item (on print it is shown under the title)
You're right, when viewing all of your items in the list view, it can be difficult to determine which items belong to which category, particularly if you have 'rich icons' enabled (which gives you those fun, colourful icons for all your Logins and Software Licenses).
You can, however, view your items by category, simply by clicking on the particular category in the sidebar.
I hope this helps, but we're here if you have any further questions or concerns. :)
