I'm setting up1password 5 on a new computer - os Yosemite. I have 1 password 3 on an older computer (os 10.6.8) which will no longer be used. The data from 1 password 3 is in Dropbox on both systems. In setting up 1password 5 (new) do I use the password for 1password 3 (old) and if I do will that disable 1 password5 when the older system is no longer in service?

    Hi @Vchris68,

If you have your 1Password.agilekeychain in Dropbox then when you set up 1Password 5 it will find it and automatically connect to it.

With 1Password 3 we used the .agilekeychain as the format for storing your vault. In 1Password 4/5 we now use the .agilekeychain as a syncing format. So when 1Password 5 connects to it it will keep updating the 1Password.agilekeychain in case you're using it to sync with other devices or machines.

Once 1Password 5 has imported a copy of the 1Password.aglekeychain you can disable sync if you wish and your vault will be only stored locally on your new Mac. Of course if you want to keep a copy in Dropbox you're free to leave sync enabled.

Does 1Password 4 use the same keychain as 1Password 3? - that's one page we have on the differences and another useful one will probably be Migrating from 1Password 3

Does that help explain at all?
