1Password 5 - Drop Down Logins from Firefox

Hello:

I recently upgraded from 1Password 3 to 1Password 5. I love it, but I have a few issues/concerns.

  1. The drop down login or the "i" icon from the top right of Firefox is awesome, but it seems to be available all the time. It never asks me for my 1Password password. My login and password is available 24/7. Doesn't this defeat the whole security thing? Can I change this? Is it the way I have it configured?
  2. I added the 1Password app to my iPhone and iPad and I did the wifi synch. All good. However, when I login from my iPhone to a website, it seems that I can only get it to autofil the username/password if I go to the website by selecting the "globe icon" from the lower right of the 1Password app. Is that correct? I tried to add the extensions to my apps like "Chase Mobile" and "Strava" and was unsuccessful.

Thanks!
Arleen

    Hi @Arleen,

I'm happy to hear you love 1Password 5 for Mac! :) To answer your questions:

1Password should automatically lock itself under certain conditions, and should not remain unlocked all the time. From the main 1Password 5 app, go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then click the Security tab. There, you'll see several auto-lock settings. Which of those options are enabled? Does 1Password lock itself under those conditions? In case it helps, we have some more information about those settings in this User Guide article.

The globe icon in 1Password for iOS is a built-in web browser we call 1Browser. To open a site in 1Browser and have your username/password filled, go to the Categories section of 1Password, select a Login item, then tap the URL.

Also, starting with iOS 8 and 1Password 5 for iOS, you can use the 1Password extension in Safari to fill your login info. To enable and use the extension in Safari, follow the steps here.

To use the 1Password extension in other iOS apps, the developers of those apps must add support for the 1Password extension. You can check out this article to see which apps have already added support for the 1Password extension. For more information, please take a look at our Extension FAQ.

I hope that helps, but please let us know if you have more questions!

    Hi Drew:

Looking at the Security tab, I have selected: Lock on sleep, lock when screen saver is activated, lonck when main window is closed, lock when fast user switching and clear clipboard after 90 seconds. FYI, when I opened 1Password to look at preferences, it did not ask me for a password.

Also, looking at your article on extensions, I see that "Strava", "Google", "Chrome", and "Chase Mobile" are NOT listed. Is that why when I open those apps I do not have the option of autofil?

    Thanks.

    Hi @Arleen,

So if you keep the main 1Password application open (which includes when it is minimised) then yes, your vault would remain unlocked. If you're not in the habit of closing 1Password but still want your vault locked when you're not around you could play about with the Lock after computer is idle for x minutes setting or you can manually lock 1Password using a configurable keyboard shortcut whose default is ⌃⌥⌘L. If you're saying the application isn't open prior to this (in Yosemite open is indicated by a little black dot next to the application in the dock) then that's something we might need to investigate.

Regarding your iOS question. Extensions are new to iOS 8 and Apple are being very security conscious here. One iOS app cannot simply inject an extension into another, the app has to integrate support either for a certain general set of extensions or in the case of ours which needs to do something very specific, they need to integrate specific support for our extension. Now many have but the onus is on the developer of the app you want to use 1Password in.

I hope that explains things but please do post back if you have follow up questions.
