Dropbox and TOTP

I've been using Authy for 2 Step verification and now that its offered on 1Password for iOS and OS X, I'd like to make the switch. I tried setting up Dropbox with 1Password; the setup went well, but the codes generated are not accepted, however, the codes generated by Authy still are accepted. Do I have to turn 2 Step off in Dropbox, and then set it up again using only 1Password? Or do I have to remove Dropbox from Authy?

Hi @culb0743,

I'm sorry that this isn't working for you. You shouldn't have to do either of those to get it to work. The number one thing that can go wrong is an incorrect/invalid TOTP secret, that would generate invalid codes. If you go into Edit mode in 1Password, and edit the TOTP secret value, make sure that there are no spaces anywhere in it. That's usually what trips things up.

I've done as you instructed and found no spaces. I also tried to re-add the secret to 1Password with no luck.

Hrmm.... this is going to get tricky. This is sensitive information so I can't ask you to paste it here for me to look at it. Let's try this... if you go into Edit mode, you should see something that looks like otpauth://totp/Dropbox:wendyappleseed@dropbox.com?secret=ZXBKPQIPPPFOZFKWXNWHXZ5ZAY&issuer=Dropbox. The email address and the secret will look different, but overall it should look something like that. Let's make sure of two things: first... let's make sure that what you have begins with "otpauth" like that one does.

If that doesn't make it work, let's simplify it. If you look at that value you'll see inside of it "secret=ZXBKPQIPPPFOZFKWXNWHXZ5ZAY". Let's remove everything except the secret itself, as that's the important part. So in this case that would leave us with ZXBKPQIPPPFOZFKWXNWHXZ5ZAY. Your secret is going to be different, obviously.
