Can't remove or fix synchronized vault after server name changed

I encountered a problem with 1Password 5.3 on OSX - it's now fixed so this is just for your information (and anyone else that has the same problem).

My team has a vault that synchronises with a folder on a network drive, it's installed in my 1Password as a secondary vault. Recently the network server had its name changed (which was out of our control). After the change, 1Password kept trying to sync with the now non-existent folder and generating an error. When I tried to disable synchronisation or delete the vault, it silently failed.

I was only able to fix it by spoofing the server name in my /etc/hosts file.
