Accidentally deleted 1Password files and need to restore
I upgraded to version 4 a while back and stupidly thought it was OK to remove version 3 using Appcleaner which also removed my backups and other key files. The only files that remain are OnePassword.sqlite and OnePassword.sqlite-wal. Is there any way to restore my data using any of these files? Thanks for any help!

Hi @gooney,
App cleaners, as you've sadly discovered, are something we advise against due to the potential to be overzealous.
Now if you still possess the OnePassword.sqlite file then we should be able to correct this.
To better understand what is happening at the moment can I ask a couple of questions.
- You say you're running 1Password 4, is that our Agile Web Store (AWS) version or Apple's Mac App Store (MAS) one? I ask as they store their support files in different places. Basically did you purchase 1Password directly from us at our store or with Apple's App Store.
- What happens if you launch 1Password at the moment? I'm just trying to get a feel for what we're dealing with.
- Where did you find the
OnePassword.sqlite
file and does the created timestamp match when you started using 1Password 4 or does it match when you used the app cleaner? The size of the file might give some clues as well. - Have you checked your Trash to see if anything removed by the App Cleaner is in there?
With these we'll hopefully be in a better position to try and resolve this. Try and stay positive and we'll work with you once we have a better idea.

Thanks for the reply! To answer your questions:
I purchased it from the Agile Web Store.
When I launch 1Password. I get the screen that asks: I'm new to 1Password/I've used1Password before.
In my library/application support/1Password4/Data folder. The date created was last year when I upgraded to version 4.
Unfortunately I emptied the trash after the delete.

Hi @gooney,
Okay, this sounds recoverable.
Here is what I recommend.
- Copy your
Data
folder from~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
to your Desktop. This way we know yourOnePassword.sqlite
is safely stored in a non-default location. - Go through the steps to get 1Password running again. If you have to create an entirely new vault don't worry, we have your Data folder copied to your Desktop from step 1. If it picks up your old vault then we're done.
- With a working but probably empty vault, I want you to quit both 1Password and 1Password mini using the keyboard shortcut
⌃⌘Q
. To replace the Data folder we don't want 1Password mini interfering. - Copy the Data folder from your Desktop over the one in
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
. Don't move so you still have a copy if needed. - Start up 1Password.
All going well it should read your old vault and require your normal Master Password to continue.
If I had my test machine I could replicate your situation and check to see what will happen but it's not with me at the moment. I can't say if 1Password will pick up the existing vault or not during step 2. That's why we're copying the
Data
folder to avoid any chance of losing it.Keep us informed!
