Using Public or Friend's Computers

Usually I logon to websites using 1P generated passwords from my own devices. When I use a public computer or a friend's computer, what would be the best way to logon to my personal accounts? I am concerned that I may one day be without my own device, whether it be lost or stolen or just broken. I sync to dropbox, but do not think this would help me to find passwords in that instance. Any ideas?

  • Hi @CarolineEddy,

Thanks for writing in. That's a great question. As it turns out, the fact that you sync to Dropbox absolutely does help you in this regard. Inside of the AgileKeychain file that we sync to Dropbox, there's what we call 1PasswordAnywhere. 1PasswordAnywhere is a really basic version of 1Password that can run within a browser window for exactly these types of scenarios.

We have a short tutorial that should show you how to load up 1PasswordAnywhere from Dropbox's website.

You can also learn more about 1PasswordAnywhere here.

I hope this helps. Let us know if you have any other questions. We're happy to help.

    Rick,
Thank you so much for this information. I really did not know that there were any resolutions for this scenario. I'll let you know how it turns out for me.

    Hi Rick,
It looks like this is the answer for me. I just have one more question about 1Password Anywhere. If I am using 1P4 for Mac and use a friends computer that is a Windows PC, will my Mac 1P files still work? Do I need to purchase the PC- Mac combo version of 1P?

    Hi @CarolineEddy,

All you need to access 1PasswordAnywhere is a browser, any of the common ones will do. You don't need a licence either as you're simply viewing a read-only, browser friendly version of your vault. What you will need is a memorable password for Dropbox though. The way 1PasswordAnywhere works is by viewing an HTML file that lives inside your 1Password.agilekeychain. Now because of local file restrictions that exist in all the major browsers the easiest way is to view your .agilekeychain from Dropbox's website. So to do that you need a username and password that you can remember. Now it is basic but it will allow you access to the entire contents of your vault in a read-only state which should be more than enough. If you want to edit your vault or make use of the 1Password Browser Extension then you might want to think about a copy of 1Password for Windows but it isn't required to simply use 1PasswordAnywhere.

If you have any follow up questions please do ask
