Mac forgot that it was syncing
Hi all,
I am using dropbox to sync between 2 macs, an iPad and and iPhone. This has been working well for many months but a few days ago (which might coincide with installing 1password 5.3) my laptop decided to forget that it was syncing. All of the data is still visible in 1password but the sync preference panel is saying "Sync Primary with None"
Dropbox is working on the laptop and "1Password.agilekeychain" is still there. The other three devices are still syncing fine but the changes don't show up on the laptop.
If I select "Sync Primary with 1password" in the preferences then 1password prompts me to merge the two vaults. If I double click on "1Password.agilekeychain" then 1password prompts me to create a new vault out of that file. I'm a bit nervous of doing either of those in case it makes things worse.
What's the best way to get the laptop syncing again, without messing up the data already in dropbox?

Hi @richardc,
I can't explain why your MacBook stopped syncing with Dropbox but what I can say is you have nothing to worry about when 1Password uses the word Merge. I'm constantly disabling and re-enabling sync and the only time you need to worry about a merge is if we're talking about two very different vaults. As your MacBook was syncing to this .agilekeychain until recently it will almost undoubtedly mean no adverse effects at all.
If you're worried at all you can search for conflicts afterwards as we never throw anything away.
- Click on the All Items entry in the Sidebar pane.
- Then use the keyboard shortcut
⌃⌥⌘F
to bring up the Search Options. - Click where it says Title and in the now visible list select the Conflict fields option near the bottom of the list.
The list will show you any conflicts that 1Password couldn't resolve. I doubt this will be needed at all but for your peace of mind it will allow you to check before and after to ensure it all went well.
If you have any issues or indeed questions please do post back and we'll do our best to help

Thanks @littlebobbytables,
As you suggested I reenabled dropbox syncing and accepted the merge. Everything seems to have gone fine with no significant conflicts.

That's great to hear @richardc  Now that it is syncing again we've gotten over the one potential hurdle, that first merge so I'd expect it to go smoothly now. If it doesn't though you know where we are.
