Library backup question

Hello. In prep for my switch to iCloud syncing, I've been researching my backup structure. In my library/app support I have both a "1Password" and a "1Password4" backup folder. It appears the "1Password4" folder is active (I made a backup today and it updated here vs. the 1PW folder.)

Should I remove one or the other of these app support file structures? I can easily set a backup for either but seems odd that I am using a backup for Version6 of the app in a Version4 file folder.

Thanks in advance.

Just to confirm that, because there has been no change in the data structure, the data for 1PW6 is kept in the 1Password4 folder. AgileBits did think about changing the name, but concluded that this would lead to its own problems, so kept the old name, even though it is not ideal.

I believe you can delete the 1Password folder, but I am not certain of this.

  • Hey @macTT! Do you have the Mac App Store version of 1Password installed? It sounds like, at some point, you switched to the AgileBits Store version, which is the 1Password 4 folder. The 1Password folder is for the Mac App Store version. It's a bit confusing, I'll admit, and we're hoping to improve things in the future. In the meantime, I wouldn't recommend removing either of those folders unless you're sure you have all your data in one version or the other. If you'd like to figure out what version of the app you have, just give this knowledge base article a read.

If you're not quite sure whether your data is in one or the other, we have some other ways to figure things out. But for now, let us know how things go! :)
