1Password 6 fails to recognize One Password Mini hotkey when incognito chrome is in focus

I am experiencing that the command-alt-backslash hotkey for the One Password Mini does not register if an incognito Chrome window is in focus, however if any other window is in focus (including a normal Chrome window) the hotkey registers just fine.

Steps to reproduce:
1. launch Chrome
2. activate the 1PMini hotkey
3. observe the popup window somewhere on the screen
4. command-shift-n within Chrome to launch an incognito window
5. activate the 1PMini hotkey
6. observe that nothing at all happens

Related to this, I think, is the behavior that when an incognito window is in focus, the menubar icon accepts a click, turns blue, and remains blue indefinitely - never displaying the 1PMini popup window. This behavior isn't the same if any other window is in focus.

    Hi @mdaniel_srcclr,

Thanks for taking the time to report this with the great steps to reproduce. I was able to witness this myself here and have created a bug in our tracker (OPX-1111) so that we can get that fixed up.

    Cheers.

  • Hi @mdaniel_srcclr,

Minutes after filing that bug, I was alerted to the fact that it's actually possible to make this work. Here's what you'll want to do in Chrome:

    • Use the Chrome > Preferences... menu item
    • Click on 'Extensions' in the side bar
    • Find the 1Password extension in the list
    • There should be a "Allow in incognito" checkbox. Make sure it's checked.

When I checked that, 1Password now to works as expected for me even in my Incognito window.

You misunderstand my report: it's not that the extension doesn't auto-fill - that I totally expect because of the incognito checkbox you mention. My complaint, and it's definitely new behavior, is that if I'm not paying attention and I have a Chrome incognito window in focus, I cannot open the mini (which is also controlled by the menubar icon that I screenshotted; and that is 100% not connected to Chrome in the slightest).

For absolute clarity: if I have Chrome incognito, clicking on the 1PM icon in the menubar just turns the icon permanently blue and makes it nonresponsive for as long as the incognito window remains in focus.

    Hi @mdaniel_srcclr,

What you're seeing is the result of our attempts to improve support of multiple profiles in Chrome. We know we still have work to do here due to the behaviour you're seeing here. What is happening is each Chrome window you have 1Password installed and enabled in is reporting that the window is not in focus and that 1Password should ignore it. When all the extensions report that they should be ignored 1Password reaches a state where it believes it shouldn't open the 1Password mini menu. The reason we now have the extension tell 1Password mini to ignore it is previously multiple Chrome profiles were causing interference with each other. Rick's steps should work because if the incognito window also has an enabled copy of the extension it will report that it is in focus and the 1Password mini will open using the information reported back by this copy of the extension.

We do know we need to make the current logic more intelligent though. In the case you describe we want to have 1Password mini open and behave as if a non-browser application was present i.e. it doesn't offer to show you matching Login items.
