Carbon Copy Cloner disk image

I have set up my system to use both Time Machine and Carbon Copy Cloner so that I have a bootable copy copy of my main disk. The external disk I use for the clone is online.

For some reason a short while ago 1P mini locked and I was unable to close it. I tried opening the main 1P and it told me it couldn't connect to mini and that a possible reason was the duplicate version of 1P in the clone. I think it unlikely that was the reason but to be told that I should get rid of it from my backup copy seemed a bit OTT! We have to be able to backup our systems whether we are using 1P or not.

I was in the process of logging into 1P mini to save a login when this happened so I have no idea what went wrong but it is working OK now after quitting 1P main and restarting it.

1Password Version: 6.1 for mac
Extension Version: Firefox & Safari
OS Version: OS X 10.11.3
Sync Type: iCloud

@spock999 - I have exactly your setup, and I have followed the advice to omit the 1Password application (only) from my CCC backups. I did this for the reason you report. This Apple bug finally bit me, after a long time leaving me alone. This is an Apple issue with OS X launch services. They sometimes search too widely to find the 1Password helper application, and if they find an older version on the backup drive, you get the error you describe. This is a problem that Apple has to solve. It isn't something that AgileBits can fix. There is a section in the CCC manual about this that mentions other cases, including updates from the Mac App Store itself. In that case, users keep getting update notices, even though they have already done the update. The older versions on the backup drive are the culprits in that case.

It isn't really a problem to exclude the application from your backups. A fresh copy is always available to download for free if you should need it, and your data is not located in the application; it is stored elsewhere and continues to be backed up normally. I've taken a somewhat different approach. I've createdd a folder in Applications called 1Password Archive, where I store a zipped copy of the past releases. Those copies backup normally, but they don't interfere with Launching 1Password..
