Dvorak QWERTY shortcuts not working for 1Password

I use Dvorak QWERTY shortcuts on my computer, which means I have a different layout but, I use the same command shortcuts, for example, for Copy/Paste as a normal QWERTY keyboard. I can’t cut, copy, paste, or do anything within the 1Password app. This is the only app on my computer that just doesn’t accept command shortcuts.

    Hi @drewpowers,

Are we referring to the keyboard shortcuts for locking 1Password, showing 1Password mini & filling the current web page or is it other keyboard shortcuts that are an issue?

Those three that I mention can be configured from the General tab in 1Password's preferences. I know we've had trouble with keyboard localisation and I'm told that it is never as easy as we the users believe it looks like. I can imagine as things are almost always messier once you peek under the hood. If you alter them from their default values do they work any better?

If it's other keyboard shortcuts could you let us know which ones please.

@drewpowers: Also, based on your description, it sounds like you're not using an actual Dvorak keyboard. Are you?

If you've got some software translating one keystroke to another on the fly, I can see how that could confuse things. And if you're using a hardware Dvorak keyboard, it seems odd that only keyboard shortcuts_ would be affected in this way. After all, a P hardware keyboard scan code is the same regardless of the keyboard layout. The OS doesn't care where the key is located physically, only that it received the appropriate scan code for it. Please let me know what you find!

@littlebobbytables Primarily it’s copy / paste shortcuts in OnePassword Mini (i.e., pasting a password into OnePassword, or something into the notes field, etc.). The extension shortcuts seem to be fine. Also relevant: the shortcuts are mapped wrong. E.g.: the “lock” shortcut is mapped to ⌃⌥⌘ + L, but it shows as “⌃⌥⌘ + N” (the N on Dvorak is positioned where the “L” is on QWERTY; not sure if this is intentional or not.). Again, Dvorak QWERTY operates like a QWERTY keyboard whenever ⌘ is held down. But mostly: ⌘ + any key doesn’t work in One Password Mini so I’m unable to copy/paste text via shortcut no matter what I try.

@brenty I’m simply using the “Dvorak - QWERTY ⌘” native input method on Mac. Every other program works fine with this input, but I’ve never been able to use it with One Password. Note that this is different from “Dvorak” input.

    Hi @drewpowers ,

Thanks for taking the time to write in and bringing this to our attention. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that keyboard shortcuts for the menu commands in the main application (not the mini menu) work fine like other applications. In the mini, they have to be handled a bit differently because they need to be available when other applications are in the foreground.

What seems to be happening is that the keyboard shortcut is stored based on the actual letter shortcut, but displayed based on the hardware key code, and combining that with the uniqueness of the Dvorak - QWERTY layout, a conflict is arising. I don't believe we have a solution available today, but we will look into this bug.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
