No upgrade from Version 6?

OK, so that was the case previously! So I'm not going crazy :)
I just purchased the 1Password 7 Mac license. I look forward to upgrading my 1Password 4 Windows to 1Password 7 beta for Windows, but am hesitating because the list of known issues for that beta is rather long and some might impact my work on the Windows side. hmm....

Understandable. :)

@Ben I successfully subscribed and have an account, got it setup on both Mac and iOS.
After many years of 1Password licenses I'm happy to continue as a customer :)

That is great to hear @FolsomRider. Glad the transition went smoothly. I think you'll be very happy with the improvements we've made and new features that are available above and beyond standalone with 1Password membership.

Are there any plans to offer a discounted subscription to long-time users? I could get on board with a subscription but not at nearly $50 CAD/year for a single user.

I had an individual subscription, but recently found out that I could create a Family subscription and add other members that are not technically family or someone that lives in my household. Look for friends to help share a family subscription.

Hey there @apostolos . If you would like to upgrade to 1Password 7 you will indeed need to sign up for a 1Password membership or purchase a new standalone license.

Just purchased my 7 license from version 6. 52$ CAD.
thanks for your wonderful software

@Hanterdro I always buy directly from the developer. Apple takes 30% from App Store sales. You'll get the same update notices from 1Password as you did with your App Store version.

So, resuming: I can obtain the discounted price for the stand-alone version ONLY IF I download the beta version, right?
But I also have to ACTUAL use the beta version? I'm not in love with betas on such a delicate software like 1P.

Would this approach possible?
Buy 1Password from your Store and start 1Password with the license.
They license should be stored in iCloud and than we could switch to the App Store version. The App Store version sees that we have a valid license and we can use the App Store version.0 -
Just to elaborate on @patanfrana's question- as I have the same question;
- How do we buy the stand-alone 1Password 7 license at the discounted beta rate without actually running the beta?
I'm not keen to move to a beta for something as important as my password manager. Do I just have to wait and pay the full non-beta price?
P.S. One bit of feedback- there are a lot of us out there who are fundamentally unwilling to pay subscriptions for software but will happily pay large lump-sums for new versions. Subscriptions are like pre-ordering a game- you are paying for something that you may never get. I'd rather see what I'm getting up-front and then pay for it. IMO Subscriptions don't incentivise development and improvement in SW.

That is explicitly forbidden by the App Store’s rules.
The current pricing is to help incentivize folks to help us beta test 1Password 7. If you are not interested in doing that we will have another sale at launch. In short: if you’re not interested in beta testing, please don’t purchase the beta. That’d be against the spirit of what we’re offering here. :)
On the contrary. With 1Password, unlike pre-ordering a game, you’re paying for something you get utility from every day. I think if anything you’ll see that our development cycle has increased in pace (and it was already pretty fast paced) since the launch of 1Password memberships. I can’t speak to other subscription services, but I would say if you look at our history it runs counter to what you’re saying.

Hello! thanks, I use 1password for many years and it really worths money. I don't like monthly subscription, so I will buy an upgrade license. Should be possible to sync via dropbox even on 1password 7 standalone app? thanks!
0 -
Yes. :) But if you haven’t tried 1Password membership I’d highly encourage you to do so. It is the best way to experience 1Password. We never lock you out of your data, even if you stop paying (you just won’t be able to add, edit, or fill — you can still view, copy, export, etc).

Yes thanks, I have one personal vault (with standalone) and a subscription with my company, but I prefer to spend one time. Probably I'm wrong, but since today I was very happy with 1password. Thanks!!

@Ben Thanks for the update.
Just to summarise for anyone looking for the info;
1- If you have purchased the App through the App Store and wish to keep purchasing the stand-alone version you will need to move over to direct purchase from AgileBits. [Edit- looks like Dave T has said that it's not definitely decided that it won't be ultimately purchasable via the Mac App Store, for now the Beta definitely isn't]
2- The discount for a stand-alone license during the beta phase is in return for beta testing the app, so you if you want to purchase you should either join the beta program or wait for the full version and pay whatever the license costs at that point.
As regards subscription models for SW I'm afraid that you'll not likely change my mind- fundamentally I want to buy things rather than rent them. Doesn't mean I think that AgileBits isn't doing a good job driving the software forward, I just dislike the model in general- so please do keep the stand-alone model going if you can. Thanks.

I would say that is a pretty good summary, @ScreamingPict. Thanks.

It is expected that standalone licensing will be more expensive than membership. It costs more to develop and support. If you’d like to transition to a membership please feel free to drop our sales team an email to
sales@1password.com
Thanks.

I have v6 lic but when first start 7 beta it didn't prompt for upgrade, I guess it because I also logged in my team account? If so how can I pay for my personal one?

@Dianeoforegon: That's a terrible idea, as that would give the Organizer of the 1Password Families plan the power to delete your account at any time. While we don't care who you decide to call family, 1Password Families is really designed to be used in a family setting with people you trust. If someone doesn't trust you with the keys to the house, you probably shouldn't accept a 1Password Families invitation from them.

@yee: Indeed, being signed into a 1Password.com account means you don't have to buy a license. If you're sure you still want to buy one though, shoot us an email sales@1password.com and post the Support ID here so we can help. :)

@apostolos: I hear you, but that can't be helped. If you had paid for version 6 earlier — it was introduced more than two years ago, and so were 1Password.com memberships — you would have had the benefit of it sooner. But, as with anything else, we still put the same amount of work into it regardless of when you happened to purchase it. It's all about choices. But while we can't change that for you, we're happy to help you make the transition if you'll email us at sales@1password.com and post the Support ID you receive here. Have a great weekend! :)

@brenty, sorry if I came out a little bitter. You have a great product of course, it's worth its money! I'm with you since v3, Mac & iOS. I should have known better for purchasing a product that was at v6.8 (with iOS already at v7) - I was probably hoping for some kind of grace period for recent purchases, but I totally get the choices you have to make in order to maintain a viable business and a high quality product.

Thanks for understanding, and again I’d recommend that anyone looking for guidance on their specific situation reach out to our sales team as Brenty also mentioned. They’ll be in the best position to help. i.e. We’re a bit limited in what we can post here on the forum which may not apply to every situation. :)

@apostolos: But at the same time, you wouldn't have been able to use it in the mean time otherwise. Never a bad idea to spend the money on something you'll get good use out of. Definitely reach out via email if and when you're ready to make the jump. We'll be happy to help. :)

@brenty According to Kate Sebald
Of course, you have the option to expand your 1Password family by upgrading to a Family account and sharing the cost, if you’d like. As I often say, there’s nothing dictating that your 1Password family has to be under the same roof or even share common ancestors. Your best friend, your dogsitter, your attorney, or anyone else you may want to share with can be part of your 1Password family.
