New 1Password accout and Windows 7

I just opened a 1Password account Monday, switching from standalone apps and started with upgrading the Windows version to 7. Following the steps in "Move your existing 1Password data to a 1Password account" on my Windows machine, I am totally lost. When I click in the 'add account directly', the 1Password app opens. What next?

First, while trying to contact Agilebits support, I encountered the nasty captcha. As a blind/very low vision user, thse abominations are totally inaccessible. There are better schemes that are accessible.

Secondly, I am new to the NVDA screen reader and am struggling to figure out how to move my existing data to my new 1Password account. It does not help any that the 1Password app does not use my high contrast (white on black) settings. So I have been trying for two days now to make this work. and I have not yet done the Mac. Beginning to regret this! Yuh know. if it ain't broke. don't fix it.

    Hi @BlueFrog,

Thank you for getting in touch! I am sorry to hear you bumped into difficulties with your new 1Password account.

First of all, thank you for voicing your concerns about Captcha on our contact page. We are looking into it. Thanks! :+1:

As for the issue at hand, if you have already installed 1Password 7 on your PC and added your account there, please try to do the following:

    1) Open and unlock 1Password 7 app on your PC.

    2) Go to 1Password > Import.

    3) Choose Agile Keychain or OPVault folder option and find your old vault on your computer. Select it.

    4) Enter the Master Password for that vault, select your Personal vault as the vault your data will be imported into and click Import.

    5) Let me know how it goes.

    Thanks in advance!

    Cheers,
    Greg

Hi. What I am bumping into is that I cannot see text that is on a white background and I am still learning to use NVDA.

I managed to find the import item and when I selected the folder in Dropbox I am stopped there. I can't see what is on the 1Password app screen because of the lack of contrast so have no idea if I have selected the right options.

  • @BlueFrog: First off, NVDA should read everything in 1Password for you, so if you find anything isn't clear to you along the way, please let us know. Accessibility is very important to us, so thoughts on improvements we can make are very welcome.

I'll do my best to help with a description here so you know what's where. Before I go over the import, though, I'd like to backtrack just a bit. To me, it sounded like you hadn't yet signed into your account in your original post. You mentioned having clicked "Add your account directly", but nothing further and you should have needed to enter your Master Password to complete that process. I'm not personally familiar with what NVDA reads for you in these cases so I'll have to apologize for a lack of specificity here, but if when you open 1Password, you're on the Welcome screen with the blue "Start my trial" button on it, stop here and let us know. This means your account isn't added yet, so we'll have to finish up that process before importing your data.

If you instead are on a lock screen where you just enter your Master Password to open 1Password, you have signed in and can conitnue with the import. To do that, once you've selected the folder to import from Dropbox, focus should shift to the vault password field. This means without tabbing at all, you can go ahead and type the password you used to unlock 1Password 4. Once you've done that, tab once and you'll be on the dropdown menu to select a vault to import into. Your Personal vault will be selected by default, so if that's the one you want, just press tab again. You'll now have the Import button focused. Go ahead and press enter.

That should get everything imported for you. Of course, any questions along the way, we're here to help. :chuffed:

I wonder if we could use email to do this? I am able to sign in but if I can break this down some I will make more progress.. Thank you. :)

  • @BlueFrog: Absolutely. If you send us an e-mail to support+windows@1password.com and let us know the support ID you get via autoreply here, I can hunt your e-mail down right quick and we can continue this conversation there. :chuffed:
