Changed Master Password but did not Save it

Hello all,

This is my first time asking a question on an online forum. Could someone help me please? And I apologize in advance if I'm not providing the community information in the correct manner. Happy to clarify what I've done.

  1. Within the Mac app, I went to Settings and Change Password
  2. 1Password asked me for my current password (I entered it)
  3. 1Password asked me to enter a new password
    1. 1Password generated a new password and I clicked on it
    2. This new password was input into both the "New Password" boxes
    3. I copied the new password using "Command C" on the keyboard while selecting the new password
    4. 1Password asked me if I wanted to save the New password in the vault and I said "no" (thinking I want to have my master password outside of 1Password)
    5. 1Password asked if I wanted to change to the new password and I confirmed it
  4. I then went to Apple Notes to paste my New password (see 3.3 above) and nothing was pasted

So, I'm stuck now. I changed my password and my attempt to copy and paste that new password failed.

Thanks

GB

I'm happy that you were able to find your account password! I recommend memorizing the new password going forward, it should be the "one password" that you remember and don't store anywhere else.

  • Hello GB-onthegreens! 👋

I'm sorry that you're experiencing issues with accessing your 1Password account. 1Password's secure design means that your account password and Secret Key are never transmitted to us and we don't have the ability to recover your account for you. All of your information is end-to-end encrypted to prevent us from ever accessing it.

Do you have any devices that are still signed in at the moment? If you do, you might be able to locate your password there in the password generator's history: If you used the password generator and can’t find the password to sign in

If that doesn't work, here is a guide on what might help if you have forgotten your account password: If you forgot your account password or you can't unlock 1Password

If you're still unable to unlock 1Password then please send an email to support@1Password.com so that the team can help further.
