Use 1PW iOS app for 1PW macOS Web Login Verification
I've read somewhere, there's an intrinsic programming difficulty for 1PW's use of a PassKey when logging into one's web 1Password Account. ...Ok, but maybe there's another approach to a PassKey, which offers a 1PW-centric secure, alternative to the current procedure ...
What about... a 1PW ID-verification procedure {in lieu of using say, 2FAS OTP} through separately opening (within a timed-period) one's verified 1Password iOS app on a 1PW Account verified, mobile number in order to click an iOS app pop-up say, ... "Yes, it's me logging in"
I have been using the 2FAS app for this verification. ...It's Ok, but would prefer a 1PW-centric means.
Having 1PW Account web access (upon, Cmd+/ or 1PW Autofill) sequentially trigger a web browser popup, requesting User open their 1PW iOS app for ID verification and completing web Account login, ...maybe an alternative.
Not long ago, Charles Schwab's web Account access began offering this alternative, ID-verify process ( to SMS sending of a One-time 6-digit Passcode to Account User's verified mobile number ). In Schwab's iOS app-verify process, the iOS app's verify button is accessed simply by opening the verified, iOS app (device FaceID or biometrics security applies to see this verify screen ). { However, one is not required to complete logging into their Schwab iOS app in order to complete the verification. Simply clicking the pop-up "It's me" completes the Verify. } ...Upon verification, the iOS app's verify button, disappears and one is then, simply at the iOS app's Login entry screen. ...But, one has completely logged into their web Account.
...Might this be workable for 1Password?
macOS 15.5, Mac 1PW 8.1.1, iOS 1PW 8.11.0, Safari 18.5 with Safari Extension 8.10.82.29
Hello pbGuy! 👋
Thanks for the feedback! First, as you requested, I removed your other posts in this thread.
It sounds like you're talking about functionality that is being developed as part of our passkey unlock beta: Unlock 1Password with a passkey (beta)
When you sign in to your 1Password account on a new device or browser, you'll be prompted for your passkey. Once you've provided your passkey you'll then be asked to approve the sign in by entering the code generated by an existing device such as 1Password on your mobile phone.
Alternatively, you can sign in to 1Password using the QR code method. For example when you log in to your 1Password account on 1Password.com (in the browser, not the app) you'll see a QR code that you can scan using the 1Password app on your iPhone or Android device in order to transfer your credentials and then approve the sign in from the mobile device.
If I misunderstood your suggestion then let me know.

Thank you, Dave, for the reply. ...I was not aware there's been 1Password passkey development in the works.
But to insure I'm correctly understanding, this Passkey option, will be for opening one's 1PW Account (say at, my.1Password.com)?
Will this same Passkey provide Account login to this Forum Community, or will such be a separate, 1PW Forum Passkey?

Thanks for the question! Your 1Password account is completely separate from your account for 1Password.community and uses different login credentials. The passkey unlock functionality being tested in the beta is for 1Password accounts.
Our community team is looking into adding the ability to sign in to 1Password.community with a passkey but that functionality isn't yet available in the third-party platform that we're using.
