Safari extension stops working – repeatable bug

Bug report! Scenario:

  1. Be using Safari. Have had, just moments before, used the extension.
  2. Possibly related so I'll mention it: switch user accounts. Two users, one Mac. Both running 1P and the Safari extension.
  3. Try to use the extension again. It launches, unlocked, but shows no entries.
  4. Quit 1Password using the menu bar icon.
  5. The extension will lock itself. Unlock it.
  6. Everything works again.

This happens at least once a day for me. Has been for a few weeks at least. It's easily fixable so isn't massively annoying, but it's definitely a bug.

1Password Version: 8.8.0
Extension Version: 2.3.5
OS Version: 12.4

@t2clej Out of interest do you also use multiple user accounts? If you do not, we can rule that out as a cause of the issue.

I’ve sent logs, etc to 1Password. No final resolution yet.

  • Hey @johnnynoble:

That definitely isn't the experience we want you to have when using Safari. We'd likely need to take a closer look at 1Password on your Mac, I'd like to ask you to create a diagnostics report and 1Password for Safari console log from your Mac:

    Sending Diagnostics Reports (Mac)

Save a console log for 1Password in your browser

Attach the diagnostics and console log to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

@Jack.P_1P I waited for the issue to occur, which it just did. So I'll execute my 'fix' and then run the diagnostics.

    1. Quit 1P using the menu bar icon.
    2. Activate the browser toolbar button. It shows unlocked but with no autosuggested entries for a brief second, then locks and disappears.
    3. Activate the browser toolbar button again. It shows the 'Unlocking' spinner, I am prompted for my fingerprint, and I notice that 1P has launched again as the menu bar icon has reappeared.
    4. Autofill is back.
    5. Running diagnostics. All of that happened at almost exactly 07:30 by my system clock.
    6. Sent diagnostics. BitBot tells me I am JIN-49136-494.

    Thanks!

Anecdotally I can say that this happens vastly more often with two users signed in to the Mac.

I have two accounts: me, and work. Last week I wasn't signed in to work and I didn't see this issue. Today I am (signed in to both accounts simultaneously) and it's happened twice already.

  • Hi @johnnynoble:

Thanks for sending your diagnostics information across. I located your conversation with us, and it looks like one of my colleagues has recently replied to you. Continuing the conversation there would be best.
