no auto-submit setting not respected

In my 1Password settings, I have the 'submit automatically' setting unchecked, because auto-submit can mess up recaptchas. But regardless, in my browsers (mostly Firefox, but also Safari and Chrome) passwords are still auto-submitted. How do I fix this?

1Password Version: 8.10.33
Extension Version: 2.24.2
OS Version: macOS Sonoma 14.5
Browser: Firefox

  • Hello rudiger! 👋

Thanks for reaching out! You can turn off autosubmit for 1Password in the browser by following these steps:

    1. Open your browser.
    2. Right-click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar and click Settings.
    3. Click Autofill & save.
    4. Turn off "Sign in automatically after autofill".

Let me know if that doesn't work. 🙂

Brilliant--thanks! I did not know to right-click to access the extension settings.

Hello 1P_Dave, and thanks for the tip!

If this needs to be configured for each browser, within the extension, then why does the "Autofill" setting in the main app settings say "Submit automatically with Universal Autofill" and "Fill and submit the forms in apps and browsers in your Mac"?

Thanks 1P_Dave! I had read that article numerous times, but just didn't seem to understand it fully. Universal Autofill is when you use Command-Backslash?

There are two different ways to fill your login information on the Mac:

    1. 1Password in the browser (the browser extension) allows you to fill logins in your browser by selecting the login suggestion right on the page (see below). It also allows you to save logins that you've typed into a website but it only works in your browser, it doesn't allow you to fill logins in other Mac apps. 1Password in the browser is also able to fill items like credit cards and identities.

    1. Universal Autofill allows you to fill login credentials into any supported browser or other Mac app without having to install a browser extension. All you need is the desktop app. You can use Universal Autofill by pressing Command-Backslash on your keyboard.
