Sharing a vault remotely over Dropbox with an aging parent

Hello, I am using 1P 5.0.1 on my Mac and so is my aging father. He's a great guy but getting forgetful and wants me to have access to his vault, which he keeps in Dropbox. He and I already share certain Dropbox folders from his account for the same kind of reasons.

Is there a scenario where I can gain access to his vault if I need it, without having to go to his house and his machine? I have the master password to his vault. He sometimes forgets that I can't access it from my home and he gets frustrated by this.

Thanks.

    Sure. My wife is a non-techie and this is how I help her manage her 1Password data. Simply share the 1Password folder in his DB account with yourself, perhaps renaming it in your account to something like 1Password (Dad). Then in 1Password for Mac on your computer, create an empty secondary vault (naming it something like Dad again), then sync that new vault to your dad's 1PW folder in your DB account in 1Password's Syncing preferences pane. You'll then have two vaults in your 1Password app and you can switch between them, copy items between them if needed, etc..

    @RFBriggs‌

    You can skip the creating a empty vault if you wish. When his keychain finishes downloading into your Dropbox simply double click on it to add it to 1Password as a secondary vault.

    • Make sure not to remove it from the shared folder, as any changes you make you want to them to sync back to him. If you move it outside the folder it will essentially delete the keychain from his system.

    As oshloel notated : You can rename a shared folder on your Mac and it will not interfere with the original on their Mac.

    For example on my Mac. I have a folder called "Share to Barbara" (wife) she renamed it to "Share from Tommy" on her Mac. Syncing works perfectly, Dropbox was designed for this exact scenario.
