Credentials missing after re-installing Yosemite
Hi,
I did a clean re-install of Yosemite, and now the everything I saved to 1Password since ca. March 2014 is lost.
- I'm using Dropbox sync, and I made sure that Dropbox was synced before wiping my hard-drive.
- I also did a backup of the entire ~/Library-folder, so I have all the backups 1Password did. Here is what seems strange: These backups are in format .agilekeychain_zip, even though I was using 1Password 5 - after reading your docs, it seems that this format was the backup-format of 1Password3.
- Anyway, I imported this backup as described here https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/16363/how-to-use-agilekeychain-zip-backups-from-1password-3-in-1password-4 but it is identical with the Dropbox-keychain. Even though the backup is from 2015-01-27. Another confusing fact: the filename of the backup says "(372 items)", however when I import the keychain, there are only 299 items.
I have always used Dropbox-sync, never anything else. I don't understand how this could happen, but it's extremely frustrating - I hope you can help me recover those lost credentials.
Fabian.

Just another bit of information:
I just looked at the backup history of my previous installation, and the number of items as reported in the filename stopped changing after 2014-03-31 - even though I have been definitely adding login credentials since then.0 -
Hi @Fabian Schwahn,
When you made the transition from 1Password 3 to 1Password 4/5 did you stay with our Agile Web Store (AWS) version or did you move to the Mac App Store (MAS) one? They keep their files in very different locations so maybe that's causing some confusion?
1Password 4/5 (AWS) stores its support files in:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
1Password 4/5 (MAS) stores its support files in:
~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper
Does that help locate the proper backup files you're looking for?
If all you have is
~/Library/Application Support/1Password/
(please note the lack of a 4 in the folder name) then that's worrying as all you seem to have is the support files from 1Password 3.As for Dropbox, is it possible you have more than one .agilekeychain present in your storage and that you're looking at an old one?

Thank you so much. I had a backup of the entire ~/Library-folder, so I also had the backups of 1Password with the latest data. I just restored them, and all my passwords are here.
But this still leaves some open questions:
- Why were there still 1Password3 backups happening recently?
- I never turned the Dropbox Sync off, so this probably happened during updating - syncing to Dropbox seems to have stopped around the time version 4.2 was released - maybe it was connected to that.

HI @Fabian Schwahn,
If the 1Password 3 agent was still running I believe it was responsible for backing up. It would also mean many of the backups would be identical at a guess as nothing was changing.
Regarding Dropbox sync, if it has been disabled that long it's probably hard to say what happened. What's confusing is that you said you'd checked that Dropbox was synced before you initiated the wipe. I suppose at least in this instance you cautious approach meant that this didn't affect you which is one good note from your situation. You might find given the time that has passed that clearing Dropbox of .agilekeychains and starting afresh might be easier?

Yes, I checked that Dropbox was synced - it was updated at the same time as the last 1Password3-backup, so I thought that was the date of the last change. I didn't check if the keychain in Dropbox was the keychain which was actually loaded in 1Password5, because I never had 1Passwort set up to not to sync with Dropbox. I'm absolutely sure that I never turned off Dropbox sync or moved my keychain to another place - so it must have happened during some update.
Anyway, everything is fine for me, I just hope nobody else gets bitten by this.
