Love 1Password.... Except for one thing...

Hi all,

This is more of a feedback post then anything else - I really love 1Password, I have a license for iOS, Windows and OSX and enjoy it's use across all platforms.

I do have a slight issue with the more recent version of 1Password for iOS though - when creating a Login, it forces you to enter a web site address before it will allow you to save (it never used to do this). Usually I just enter a single character at this point, but its an annoyance that shouldn't be there.

I understand that many Logins will be for web sites, but logins also are used for computer accounts that aren't servers. I store my login information for laptops, desktops, etc. - these entries will have no website associated yet are still logins. The data for these accounts doesn't fit the categories password, server, database, etc - it fits as a login. So, please in the next version, either: create a new category that won't require a website that would relate to computer logins OR change the way Login works so you once again do not HAVE to enter data into the Website Address field to be able to save while using the app on iOS.

The developers have heard the plea to allow saving logins without requiring a URL, and they have promised to have that happen in an upcoming update.

In the meantime, there are a couple of workarounds. One is to enter any dummy text you wish in the URL field. You can then save it. Another, which you could use is to make your record on one of your desktop installations. There you can save Login records without entering a URL. Those records sync successfully to iOS. I've found that you can edit and reserve such records on an iOS device without entering a URL.

Yeah, I've been using the dummy text method (as I had mentioned - usually just entering a single letter). Unfortunately, many times if I have to store the data, I'm not at a system that I have 1Password installed (like if I have credentials at a clients workstation where I'll have my phone but not my laptop).

I'm not even sure why they changed that functionality - since it didn't do that in the past... Oh well, as long as they will change it back in a future update, I'll be completely happy again :)

  • Thanks for the feedback. :)
