Towards the bottom of the page, you will find the download for 1PW4 which works on Mavericks. And the license file is the same between 1PW5 and 1PW4, (5 being a free upgrade from 4) so you can just pay for 1PW5 and use the license file in 1PW4.

This is provided you are happy with getting 1PW direct from AgileBits. The only problem with that is that it does not permit iCloud sync (you need the App Store version for iCloud sync, and Apple's rules don't permit both 5 and 4 to be sold). But very many people are happy with Dropbox sync if they want to sync over the cloud.

That's not entirely true once you involve 1Password 4. 1Password 4 (AWS) when used in Mavericks can still sync to iCloud as both the version of 1Password and OS X predate the release of iCloud Drive.

So it is possible that if a user isn't using anything newer than Mavericks and iOS 7 and hasn't upgraded to iCloud Drive, that they could (technically) sync using iCloud.

Now the fact is knowing that iCloud isn't a valid sync method should somebody upgrade to 1Password 5, it would seem much easier to start wit Dropbox now for a more seamless upgrade.

AWS stands for Agile Web Store, which is how we reference the version you purchase directly from us and the version available on our AgileBits Download page.

There is a way to obtain 1Password 4 from Apple's Mac App Store (MAS) too but it does require a Yosemite machine from which to make the initial purchase.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
