Perplexed over 1Password
Spent one whole day entering 30+ logins and naively thought the password would auto-fill. All I get even after looking up the login is another blank tab in which to enter password.
I run a latest version Yosemite OS and Chrome as my main browser. How do I get an auto fill in my Gmail login window without clicking on the "1" icon searching for that login's password and then not getting a fill?

Hi @Disapp,
Just to clarify, we have a feature we call open and fill but we won't auto-fill a page. Now what's the difference? With auto-fill we will open a new tab in your default browser and load the URL from the Login item. Once loaded we will fill in the username and password and submit if that is enabled. What we mean when we say auto-fill is the idea of visiting a page in your browser and the login credentials being filled automatically without any intervention on your part. Auto-fill has certain security implications that mean we won't ever do this but open and fill should normally work.
Firstly, can I just check and confirm you have our 1Password Chrome Extension installed? without it 1Password cannot interact with the browser to fill in the fields. It will still open the page in your default browser but it can't do the rest. It may very well be that you have installed it as we do also have a bug with open and fill and the Chrome browser specifically which we're working on right now. Now this issue is specific to open and fill so normal filling using the
⌘\
keyboard shortcut for example should still work fine.Does any of that help at all?

Your answer has done nothing more than befuddled me. I have obviously grossly misunderstood what 1Password is capable of doing. I did want a true auto-fill whenever I clicked on the pop-up login window asking for password (see attachment), and yes the first thing I did for all three browsers I use (Chrome, Firefox and Safari) was install the extensions. I have been using a free version of a manager called Dashlane and it uses the auto fill feature accurately, and more importantly automatically.
I suppose I should proceed with obtaining a refund?

Hi @Disapp,
So you have that page loaded in the browser of your choice. Once it has finished loading you expect the password to be filled automatically with no user input, is that correct?
If it is then 1Password may not be the application for you. With 1Password it purposely won't do anything unless you initiate it. The easiest way is use of the keyboard shortcut
⌘\
If I have only one gmail Login item and I'm on that page,⌘\
will fill in the password and mimic pressing of the return key to start the signing in process. If I have multiple Login items it will instead open the 1Password mini menu for me to select the one I want to use. This is a very deliberate decision and one unlikely to change for security reasons.Hopefully that clears up any of the confusion I might have caused? If the issue is 1Password isn't filling in a Login item when you use
⌘\
then we can work with you to figure out why.0 -
You have just sealed the deal - that is the refund deal. I should have read the specs more carefully before buying!

Hi @Disapp,
I tried looking for a record connected to the email address you use here in the forums but I couldn't find one.
If you purchased from our store can you email us please at support+licenses@agilebits.com, requesting a refund. Now our helpful team will want to see if they can help you so if you reference this thread in the forums you can avoid going over everything again.
If you purchased via Apple's Mac App Store (MAS) then you will need to make the refund request via them as we have zero control over their store. I tend to point people to How-to: Request an iTunes purchase refund if you have a legitimate reason as I still haven't found an Apple KB article on this topic.
If you have any further questions please do ask.
