Can I still use the conventional password reset option that most sites have?

I bought 1Password years ago but never used it due to fear of locking myself out. Now, that has come to pass anyway (although thankfully, not the entire computer) with my Mac auto-filling passwords that are not the most recent. I'm wondering, if 1Password somehow generates the wrong, or not most recent password, can I still use a site's password reset function? Thanks.

Sorry this is not a direct answer to your question, but have you tried looking for your "lost" password(s) in:

    1. the Passwords category (which is where 1P stores generated passwords which are not linked to a specific saved login URL); and/or
    2. show previously used passwords under the relevant login item(s) in 1P?

Personally, I've never come across the situation where 1P completes a password or username field with old data so we really ought to get to the bottom of why that's happening for you. Please tell us what version of 1P you are using (go to 1Password > About 1Password, click on Copy to Clipboard and post the result here) and also your OS X version number. Do you sync your 1P data to any other device? If so, to what device do you sync, what version of 1P do you run on that device and what sync method do you use (Dropbox, iCloud, wifi)?

Edit: there's nothing in 1P to stop you using a site's password reset function.

    Hi @ir4143,

As 1Password is a password manager independent of any website it will never stop you using whatever service they have for recovering an account. As long as you're careful though you should never need such a feature. Well that isn't entirely true, I have once or twice come across a site that doesn't verify passwords will acceptable on their login page but get past their change password page. On those rare occasions even I've been forced to reset my password while I work out what inane requirements there really are compared to what they claim.

This is rare though but it does serve as an example of how 1Password won't interfere with this independent service each site offers.

If you have any follow up questions at all please do ask.

@Stephen_C, I got the impression ir4143 was referring to issues with OS X keychain rather than a problem with 1Password.

@ir4143, your Master Password is vital for maintaining access to your vault. I personally recommend entering it on a regular basis so you don't ever forget. Your vault's Master Password cannot be reset and there is no back door to regain entry.
