Fingerprint ID and master password not longer working (both have previously) on iPhone 6 iOS 9.2.1

Fingerprint ID and master password not longer working on iPhone 6 iOS 9.2.1; both were working previously. I had recorded the master password in 1Password 6 on my Mac laptop (OS 10.11.3) so I'm certain that it is correct. The two are synced using iCloud. To the best of my knowledge nothing has changed on the iOS or 1Password on the iPhone. I believe the iOS 1Password is the latest version but am uncertain.

Suggestions?

If I need to remove and reinstall 1Password on the iPhone to start over how would I go about it?

Thanks for the help; it's appreciated.

  • Hi @larry_cox_net

Thanks for taking the time to write in. I'm sorry to hear about the difficulty unlocking 1Password for iOS. As you have all of your information stored in 1Password for Mac as well you can simply start fresh on iOS. Instructions can be found here:

(iOS) How do I start over with an empty vault?

Once you've gotten a fresh start on iOS you'll want to sync with your Mac:

    Sync | 1Password for iOS

    I hope that helps!

    Hi @bwoodruff

Thanks for your kind response and direction but I think I had finally figured it out and started over; a bit slow on the uptake, however. ;-)

I originally set up 1Password on the iOS and gave it a login password different from the password I use on my laptop 1Password. Initially I was syncing with Dropbox and seemed to have no problem with the two different passwords. I then switched to syncing using iCloud. It was this that created my challenge which didn't occur to me at the time.

When I started syncing with iCloud it seemed to clone my laptop 1Password information, including its password, overwriting the iOS original password. A bit slow on my part to realize it as I continued to try to login into the iOS using its original password to no avail. Slowly came the dawn and, after starting over and syncing via iCloud (the process was quick and painless), it occurred to me to try to log in using the laptop password and, VOILA, it worked just fine and all is now well in my 1Password world.

A FAQ might be considered to point out explicitly what happens to passwords when syncing; if the information is there I missed it.

Again, thanks to all who took the time to review my question and, especially, to Ben for responding. It was much appreciated.

  • Excellent. Thanks for the update, @larry_cox_net. Glad to hear you were able to get this sorted out. Under normal circumstances the Master Password on all devices using the synced keychain should be the same. We appreciate the feedback, and I'll pass it along to our docs team for their consideration.

If we can be of further assistance, please don't hesitate to contact us.

    Ben
