Records showng as Unnamed/blank after upgrading to 1Password 6

Just got a new OSX laptop, installed 1 Password 6, and pointed it at a shared (Dropbox) vault that shows fine on multiple other machines (one OSX, two iOS). Many of the 1Pass entries on the new laptop show as Unnamed and with no data in them. I am hoping/assuming this is some rendering/decryption bug, since the passwords appear to still be there on my other machines, but I need a way to access all of my passwords on this new laptop ASAP. Running v 6.1 (610005), OSX 10.11.3

    Hi @sweth,

We're aware of an issue surrounding unnamed items but sadly haven't figured out what the damn cause is yet. Given this one affects the ability for somebody to access their data it is a priority, we just haven't found that all important clue that leads us to the cause.

Can you try the following please in order, see if one of them helps at all.

    1. With the 1Password main window open, quit 1Password and 1Password mini using the keyboard shortcut ⌃⌘Q. Launch 1Password again and unlock your vault. This will force a fresh copy of 1Password mini and a check to ensure the vault is synchronised. Does this alter what you see at all?
    2. It might sound odd but can you try completely quitting 1Password for iOS on your two iOS devices from the iOS multitasking screen and then relaunch and unlock your vault(s) on your iOS devices. Then lock and unlock 1Password for Mac on the new MacBook to force a sync refresh. I realise this sounds odd, it's based on the observation from another user and it will be of interest to know if you see any difference.
    3. On the new MacBook, follow our How do I start over with an empty vault? guide to start over. If you do this and have a fresh copy of 1Password attempt to connect to the data in Dropbox does the vault import the contents properly this time or do you see the same issue?

If you reach this point and there is still no improvement then I think the best way forward is the slightly more drastic route or deleting the sync container, whether it's an Agile Keychain or OPVault and having the Mac that has all the good data create a new one, see if that improves matters. The steps to do this are as follows.

    1. On the Mac with the good vault launch 1Password and enter 1Password's preferences.
    2. Switch to the Sync tab.
    3. Change the Sync option from Dropbox to None.
    4. In the confirmation window that pops up tick the checkbox titled Delete data from Dropbox and then click the Disable Sync button. Don't worry, it's only deleting the sync data for this vault.
    5. Pause for a moment to let this deletion sync with Dropbox's servers.
    6. Change the Sync option from None back to Dropbox and follow 1Password's instructions to create a brand new sync container. As you're running 1Password 6 if you had an Agile Keychain before you'll find 1Password now creates an OPVault container instead.
    7. On your iOS devices you will find they complain that the original sync container is missing. Our guide, Sync with Dropbox (iOS) should help re-establish the link between your vault in 1Password for iOS and the data in Dropbox.
    8. On the new MacBook I would recommend option 3 from above, start over and have it populate a new vault using the new sync container.

I would really hope that if you had to do the above that your real vault is now showing everywhere and that if you create a test item on one Mac that it shows up everywhere else. Please do keep us updated and if you have any questions before starting please let us know

Option 1 and Option did nothing, but Option 3 deleting everything, starting over w/ an empty vault, and pointing at the existing Dropbox keychain appears to have worked. Thanks, and hopefully you will get to the bottom of whatever is causing this...

  • Hi @sweth,

When you started over, did you reset sync on your iOS device as well, or just turned it off on Mac, started over, and turned sync back on?

If you don't mind I'd like to ask you to create some Diagnostics Reports, one from each of your devices:

Attach the Diagnostics Report(s) to an email message addressed to support+forum@agilebits.com.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report(s) in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report(s) in our inbox.

You should receive automated replies from our BitBot assistant with Support ID numbers. Please post those numbers here so we can track down the report(s) and ensure that this issue is dealt with quickly. :)

Once we see those reports, I'm hoping it will give us some more information to diagnose the information.

    Thanks,
    Kevin
